Well, it looks like Argentina came to play. Going into the WC I was wondering if they were going to play up to their potential, unlike their qualifying matches. I even predicted they wouldn't make it out of the group stage. Glad to be proven wrong though. They are up 4-1 on SK, with a hat trick by Higuain (NOT Messi). :thumb:

South Korea had about a 25 minute period where the could of equalized and probably ended in a draw. I still think SK and Argentina out of the group. I like SK beating whoever the #1 from group A is too.

Looking like Argentina and Germany are the class of the tournament - still very early though...

Coach - put me in goal. I can do better than the English, Algerian, Greek and Nigerian goalkeepers. (sure there may have been a couple more). Too bad I'm American - not beating out Howard.

Not that I like France either nor the hand ball that got them in, but they still have a legit shot of getting through. Hope for someone to win the Uruguay/Mexico game next week while they thump South Africa by several goals. Of course, I'm rooting for the tie between Uruguay and Mexico to see them both through, but France has a respectable chance still.

Its almost impossible.

Uruguay 1-0-1 3 0 4
Mexico 1-0-1 3 1 4
France 0-1-1 0 2 1
South Africa 0-1-1 1 4 1

Mexico has a 4 goal advantage in goal differential in a tie breaker. Not impossible, but it maybe safe to say its over for France. In any case, their chances arent "respectable"

Who woulda thunk that France wouldn't have a single goal after 180 minutes? Love it.

Tiebreakers go 1) goal differential, then 2) goals for. Right now France is in the -2 goals. Mexico is +2 and Uruguay is +3. I don't intend to run through the permutations (since it'll give me a headache) but it's a safe bet that France is done at this point.

Actually, the table I saw still just had the score 1-0 - the second goal is really a killer for France. And of course, they actually need someone to win that game, which is the real stickler in the whole thing. Although, with the way that Argentina is looking, you might see both Uruguay and Mexico go for broke to avoid finishing second in the group, so if France can explode offensively against a bad South Africa team... well, could happen.

If they were playing a decent side, I agree, but South Africa isn't coming off as a decent side right now.

South Africa tied a team France just lost to, yes they lost 3-0 to Uruguay but is that any worse then France losing 2-0 to Mexico? Not many people had Mexico advancing from the group stage.

Plenty of people had Mexico going through - they actually have a decent history at making the round of 16, and it was a toss up between them and Uruguay by many for going through with France. It's not really shocking that Mexico could go through.

As for the South Africa/Mexico game, eh, it's soccer, things happen. Especially in the first game of the World Cup. Since South Africa is even more out of it than France is, I wouldn't expect the same effort you saw on opening day.

It was close but he was onsides. See the link below and then click on the arrow below the ball on the 64th Minute. They show it on the replay (don't wait for the real time goal but the replay they show afterwards). Great job by the sideline official.
