However, I find this article rather amusing. He, like many others, see the play acted out before him but he can't distinguish the characters and who is playing them. Since he is such a strident anti-Capitalist, of course he lays the blame at the feet of those "evil" corporations. Too bad the guy is so blinded by his emotions and misplaced rage. If he wasn't, maybe he could actually see who is playing which characters and have the clarity to actually follow the plot. :coffee:

Please name me just a few of these so-called many (many) "global political experts".

Do you know why the clown left the New York Times?
He left because he wouldn't accept a written reprimand for, as the Times called it, "public remarks that could undermine public trust in the paper's impartiality." Even you would have to admit that if the NYT condemns one of its columnists for being too liberal, this freak is probably out there somewhere channeling the spirits of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

Here is more proof of your version of "neutral".

Why I Am a Socialist

By Chris Hedges

The corporate forces that are looting the Treasury and have plunged us into a depression will not be contained by the two main political parties. The Democratic and Republican parties have become little more than squalid clubs of privilege and wealth, whores to money and corporate interests, hostage to a massive arms industry, and so adept at deception and self-delusion they no longer know truth from lies. We will either find our way out of this mess by embracing an uncompromising democratic socialism—one that will insist on massive government relief and work programs, the nationalization of electricity and gas companies, a universal, not-for-profit government health care program, the outlawing of hedge funds, a radical reduction of our bloated military budget and an end to imperial wars—or we will continue to be fleeced and impoverished by our bankrupt elite and shackled and chained by our surveillance state.

The free market and globalization, promised as the route to worldwide prosperity, have been exposed as a con game. But this does not mean our corporate masters will disappear. Totalitarianism, as George Orwell pointed out, is not so much an age of faith as an age of schizophrenia. “A society becomes totalitarian when its structure becomes flagrantly artificial,” Orwell wrote, “that is when its ruling class has lost its function but succeeds in clinging to power by force or fraud.” Force and fraud are all they have left. They will use both.

First of all you didn't even know who the guy was until yesterday... (period)
You called him Hitchings or some odd thing

Second..
He's not a socialist, but I wouldn't expect you to actually "get the point"

Was Orwell a socialist..?
So now we can dismiss anything he says right..?
Hedges has written thousands of pages about our political system but just one article "why he's a socialist" where he references Orwell... and makes some Orwellian points

You know nothing about this person other that what you Googled yesterday

He wrote the "why I'm a socialist" buried among dozens of other articles before and after that were about all kinds of things - and - ever since been called a socialist when he's explained over and over again it's an article designed to make a point... not a declaration

He also wrote a book about atheists that had to be re-titled because it confused people... not people who read the book but book reviewers (people like you) who take a lifetime of work and distill it down to a paragraph and think they know something

but you just go on doing what you do Rush Baldy

Here's a tip:
He's a socialist only in contrast (is his point)
anybody who criticizes the present system we use is by default a socialist or a communist or a fascists..
Is he anti-Obama and yet also a socialist..?
Quick what box should we sketch out to put him in - I'm scared

Can you understand the subtleties Rush..?
Because he is critical of your golden cow you are very quick to make a judgment
He's a complex guy
he's lived and worked all over the world
he scares the sh!t out of people like you because he's seen more and done more in his life than you'll ever even be able to imagine... so now he's "A Socialist" which will allow you to dismiss him and go back to Fox Radio

Really? As usual, you don't have a clue. I've been reading selected works from the guy for years (probably more and longer than you). I've read works from him and Christopher HITCHINGS. Do you even know who he is, or is he "some odd thing" to you? I said Hitchings instead of Hedges, big fvcking deal. Both share the same philosophy and the same first name, shit happens, get over it.
Cleets wrote:Second..

When Hedges states:

"We will either find our way out of this mess by embracing an uncompromising democratic socialism—one that will insist on massive government relief and work programs, the nationalization of electricity and gas companies, a universal, not-for-profit government health care program, the outlawing of hedge funds, a radical reduction of our bloated military budget and an end to imperial wars—or we will continue to be fleeced and impoverished by our bankrupt elite and shackled and chained by our surveillance state."

He also called free market capitalism a "con game". Sorry, you can't have it both ways.
I definitely "get the point", but just like always, you swing and miss.
Cleets wrote:Was Orwell a socialist..?

Hmmmm. Instead of guessing if Orwell was a socialist or not, lets take a look at his words and see for ourselves.

The Spanish war and other events in 1936-37 turned the scale and thereafter I knew where I stood. Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it.

"I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in Socialism, which I never did before".

Orwell certainly wasn't a Bolshevik, but it's apparent that he was a believer in socialist policies. Then again, I might just not "get it"
Cleets wrote:He wrote the "why I'm a socialist" buried among dozens of other articles before and after that were about all kinds of things - and - ever since been called a socialist when he's explained over and over again it's an article designed to make a point... not a declaration

Yes, I imagine the editorial board of the New York Times didn't "get it" either.
Sure, Cleets. he wants the nationalization of the oil industry, health care, public utilities, the outlawing of certain legal free market investment options, etc. yet, he isn't a socialist just a "complex" guy.
Cleets wrote:he scares the sh!t out of people like you because he's seen more and done more in his life than you'll ever even be able to imagine... so now he's "A Socialist" which will allow you to dismiss him and go back to Fox Radio
No, what scares the sh!t out of people like me are the ignorant sheep like you who continuously ignore the 800 lb gorilla in the room. The fools who claim to think that the government is beholden to those so-called "evil" Wall Street corporations. The mental midgets who are too enamored by "complex" idiots like Hedges AND HITCHENS (check out the guy, you would LOVE him).

My turn, here is a tip for you:
Step out of your little "progressive" Utopia and educate yourself.
Not everyone who disagrees with Obama is a racist.
Corporations aren't the "boogeyman".
And don't let guys like Hedges think for you. Be original.

Do me a favor, when you get back to the "anti-corporatist" bunker, tell Ed Schultz and Olberman to go fvck themselves.

Laugh it up boys...
Classic rejection - everything he said is wrong because "he might be socialist" this view is precisely why we are where we are politically today... even if the observation is correct, if it's said by somebody who has had a different life experience than me "it's all wrong then"

Something about Baby with the bath water...

I'm so glad that I can take data and information (even from douche bag republicans) from a variety of sources and come up with my own ideas... regardless of the source - instead of complete dismissal of data or information because it was said by somebody who wrote an article one time that confused me or angered me...

Yes he bashes the present state of bail-out capitalism
Yes he also bashes the Brand Obama
Yes he found the war in Iraq to be mostly based on lies
Yes he's no fan of lobby based political systems
Corporations having more rights than citizens bothers him - it frankly should bother every citizen

is what he's saying really "that crazy"..? I don't think so
Sure he does not pray to the sacred golden cow of Corporatism Politics that we have become - so now he's a socialist

Oh the black and white world of American Conservatism - I do love it

He's neutral in that he's looked at our country from outside our country..
He's observed the real effects of our actions from the places where we impose our will

He's seen both sides - inside and outside - before he makes a comment

Most Americans get one side or the other... he's lived in both worlds
He is not beholden to patriotism as a default state - yet he is critical of much of the central american countries and middle eastern practices as well...

he's not "in love" with capitalism in it's present form - where lobby and corporate money controls everything

but I understand that's your home turf and it's personal...

Using your definition of neutral, the 21 9/11 hijackers were ALSO neutral. They looked at our country from outside our country. They observed the real effects of our actions from the places where we impose our will. They've seen both sides-inside and outside. They're not beholden to patriotism and they're not in love with capitalism. They blew up several buildings and killed 3,000 plus people.

Bingo. I guess that makes him a terrorist? Or does it make the terrorists normal? :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Man Baldy, you sure are confused. :ohno:

Chizz nailed it here and it's obvious.

Hitchens has wandered back and forth on the issues but he is solidly to the right of Hedges. You could even say he's leaned conservative over the past decade...except for the fact he's still an atheist...which I suppose makes him a socialist like Hedges.

Regardless, Hedges hits it out of the park with this article which interestingly enough takes the left to task more than the right. Then again, denial of Obama's corporatist leanings keeps the whole 'he does it cause he's a socialist' whining meme intact versus the introspective view that something is seriously fucked up with the system and laissez fair capitalism.

He also called free market capitalism a "con game". Sorry, you can't have it both ways.
I definitely "get the point", but just like always, you swing and miss.
And he has been proven correct.
Hardly. You'd be in much worse shape as a member of the politariat. :coffee: :coffee:

Hitchens has wandered back and forth on the issues but he is solidly to the right of Hedges.
Mao was the the right of Hedges, your point?
You could even say he's leaned conservative over the past decade...except for the fact he's still an atheist...which I suppose makes him a socialist like Hedges.
He hasn't leaned conservative. He may hold a few (very few) conservative beliefs (most of them are due to his pure hatred of anything religious, especially Islamofascism), but at heart he is still very left leaning.
Regardless, Hedges hits it out of the park with this article which interestingly enough takes the left to task more than the right. Then again, denial of Obama's corporatist leanings keeps the whole 'he does it cause he's a socialist' whining meme intact versus the introspective view that something is seriously **** up with the system and laissez fair capitalism.
You think Hedges hit it out of the park? How surprising.
Still laughing at that tooth fairyish unicorn like "corporatist leaning" statement, though. Just the blind leading the blind I guess.
We do agree on one point. The system is definitely fvcked up. :kisswink:

You need to pay a little better attention, Cleets. Shame on you. :ohno:
I was very critical of Bush multiple times for multiple reasons...from the Medicare Prescription Drug Program to the bloated highway bill...from amnesty for illegals to the start of the bailout fiasco. I'm an equal opportunity criticizer. I guess you're just pissed off because Obama has made himself such an easy target.

Mostly a series of buffoons...

The criticism from you seems to come from one direction only - the Rush Limbaugh play book
You even found a way to say the BP managed and operated oil rig explosion wasn't really BPs fault
