Kevin Tresolini, also UD beat writer, wrote a special report about the underhandedness of this kid's school for today's News Journal:
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2 ... ly-crusade
Summary:
1. The school, Red Lion Christian, is under investigation for trying to quickly build their football program. They only started football in 2004. They are now being investigated by the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association for recruiting for athletic purposes, providing scholarship money and housing for incoming players, playing too many middle school football games in a season and in a week; and using ineligible players. For those familiar with this area, it appears that they are heavily recruiting from Glen Mills court-referred reform high school just across the border in PA and then basically bending every rule in the book (including grades) to allow them to keep playing.
2. The father of the 13-year old QB that was subject of this thread appears to be greasing the wheels. The kid's dad is a construction tycoon. Here is what he has done for the school, directly quoting the article:
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I don't know if it's wrong to root against a kid just because they have a douchebag dad, but if this kid's arm happens to fall off, I won't be shedding a tear.

To help students who can't afford to enroll, scholarships are available through the FOCAS Foundation, a program co-founded three years ago by David Sills IV, father of the 13-year-old phenom quarterback, who also is named David.
The FOCAS Foundation -- which stands for Financially Obedient Christians Assisting Students -- is a privately funded financial aid program that, Dare said, provided assistance to approximately 60 students last year. It supplements the school's need-based financial aid program. It has provided more than $400,000 in assistance to Red Lion students, including help to a number of football players, in the three years since its inception, said Megahan, a former head of the program.Sills also has left his mark on the school's campus. His commercial contracting company, Daystar Sills, built the Pusey Center gymnasium and upper school addition "through the bidding process for pay and profit" before Sills became more actively involved in athletics, he said.
Since then, his company also has built a wrestling building, Lions Stadium and a football practice field. Sills called those projects personal donations to the school that were carried out in conjunction with other individuals and companies who donated time, materials and money.
Sills, president of the Red Lion Athletic Boosters, would not say how much money he has donated to the school. "What I do for Red Lion comes from the heart and has never been for any ulterior motive."
One aspect of the Red Lion Christian athletic program under investigation by the DIAA is its F.L.A.S.H. Training program, a for-profit company founded and owned by Sills. The acronym stands for Faithful Leaders Always Serving Him. The program is housed in the on-campus wrestling building Sills' company built. It is operated by associate head football coach Dwayne Thomas.
Thomas, who called F.L.A.S.H. Training a "ministry," is paid by F.L.A.S.H., which also pays assistant football coach Charles Lemon. Sills says he does not pay the two directly. Neither is a Red Lion Christian employee.
The program was showcased on the Red Lion campus earlier this month at an NFL Player Development Camp where coaches from Red Lion and other schools, including Smyrna, Christiana, Pencader Charter and A.I. du Pont, guided players in various drills.
Sills, a former Newark High quarterback who also played quarterback and defensive back at Virginia Military Institute, said F.L.A.S.H. Training was developed to assist all Delaware athletes.
"Kids come to F.L.A.S.H. Training and they will ask us, 'I want to go to Red Lion,' " Sills said. "And we say go on up to the administration and get an approved visit, go to an open house, and then we can talk to you about football in a general way.

This seems to fit in perfectly with the way USC runs their program

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Sounds like Red Lion is just trying to one-up the traditional Delaware non-public schools that already recruit from PA - Sallies & St Mark's.

Re: Lane Kiffin offers 13-year-old Delaware QB scholarship:
Before you start whitewashing all private prep schools for illegal or unethical recruiting, one counter situation should be examined: Stockton-St. Mary's (a Catholic HS) was seriously screwed by illegal recruiting done out of Stockton-Franklin (a public school), which had a construction guru for a head coach. They took out-of-boundaries players who were legitimately attending St. Mary's. The coach was caught and busted by the Sac-Joaquin Section of the CIF. Later, he was busted by the section for a HUGE recruiting scandal featuring players from Western Pacific islands. As a result of the whole situation, not only he but the district athletic director (only time I've ever heard of such a position) were forced out, and the coach has since died. The whole situation was embarrassing to me because he was the defensive coordinator on my Pop Warner team before all this happened. (Fortunately, I was strictly offense.)
So it's not always private schools screwing public schools. Sometimes it goes the other way....
