Who cares if Hayward goes to a race and Obama goes golfing?

Post by JohnStOnge »

So some people are blasting BP CEO Tony Hayward for going to a yacht race and others are saying Obama shouldn't go play golf. I never got this kind of thing. Surely nobody thinks stuff like that has any actual impact on the problem. Right?

If Hayward going to a yacht race meant it would take longer to fix the leak or the control and cleanup efforts wouldn't be as effective I could understand being upset that he went. Same with Obama going golfing. If him running around the Louisiana marsh in an airboat instead of playing golf for a day meant the situation would be handled more quickly and effectively there's reason to be distrurbed that he was playing golf. But those are not the situations. Neither Hayward going to a race nor Obama playing golf had any effect...positive or negative...at all.

Oh...but "it just doesn't look right." What? What the heck is that? So you feel better about being miserable if somebody else acts like they're miserable too? So, is it going to make YOUR life better if they don't take a day off?

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Hayward works for a private company he can do what ever he wants to.

President is supposed to be working for the people of this country (they actually work for corporations not the people)

2 entirely different scenarios.

I had a problem with this back when MSM portrayed Democratic presidents on well-earned vacations and Republican presidents as slacking on the job. I don't care what your party is or what issue is going on. So long as it's not a continual thing (i.e. Obama is constantly on the links at 1400), I don't give a rat's patootie if he takes a break.

Obama should be doing something productive like.... clearing brush on a ranch for two months or something....
(kidding, of course).

I actually agree with JSO on this topic.
(and that frightens me :o )

True that it's different in some respects. But I don't think whether Obama goes and plays golf or not has any impact on how the oil spill thing is being handled. And I'd bet if we knew how many hours per week he's working we'd find he's logging a lot of hours just like any President would. And he's always "on call."

I'm not an Obama fan at all. But the things I object to'd have to do with the decisions he makes; like the moratorium on deepwater drilling. But I don't get being critical because he takes some leisure time. Frankly I think people are more effective when they make sure to give their mental circuits a break from time to time as long as they don't overdo it.

I also don't understand the thing about a President having to visit places. Just like when Bush got criticized because he flew over New Orleans in a helicopter after Katrina and didn't land. So if he'd landed that would've made something better? Or Carville saying Obama needed to go down to Louisiana and ride around in an airboat? Why? All that's going to do is cost money and interfere with what's going on. There's absolutely no real reason for a President to make appearances in situations like that except that his PR staff knows people are going to make an issue of it if he (or she, I guess, at some point) doesn't.

Obama's goal in life: to make Tiger Woods a better golfer!
