yup... Ubaldo has never given up more then 1 run before. :thumb:
I should've said the only team to beat Ubaldo this season shut the Rockies out. And in 14 starts, he's given up 1 or 0 runs 10 times, so his allowing more than 1 run is pretty damn rare.

yup... Ubaldo has never given up more then 1 run before. :thumb:
# of times he's given up ZERO runs: 6
# of times he's given up > 1 run: 4
Most runs given up all year: 3

I like my chances.

If I'm not mistaken didn't he give up those three runs in basically a monsoon?

8 of 14 starts have come against teams in the lower third of batting in MLB...

Padding stats against the lowly teams on MLB isn't anything like facing Boston's offense.

Which would imply 6 of 14 starts have NOT.

...and 26 of Boston's games have been against teams with sub .500 records. What's your point? :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

He was proving that cherry picking stats makes it easy to make someone look "worse" thank they are...if you can call someone that is 14-1 with a 1.1 ERA, on pace for about 30 wins someone who is over hyped.

I know what he was TRYING to prove....but you could parse the Red Sucks stats and come to the same conclusion if you were so inclined.

He's made 6 starts against teams in the top third of OPS in MLB, his numbers in those starts:

6-0, 1.23 ERA, 44 IP, 27 H, 6 ER, 34 K, 1.05 WHIP, 1 no-hitter

In his 8 starts against weaker offenses, his numbers look like this:

7-1, 1.10 ERA, 57 1/3 IP, 38 H, 7 ER, 54 K, 0.96 WHIP

Yeah, he's padding his stats, that 0.13 ERA disparity from when he faces good teams versus bad teams is HUGE.

I'm sure Boston's vaunted lineup (sans DH) will have the best pitcher in baseball shaking in his stirrups.

Ubaldo Jimenez is "The Most Interesting Pitcher in the Universe":

His fastball is moving faster than the universe.

His slider has more break than the San Andreas Fault.

His changeup changes the course of entire civilizations.

Before the Large Hadron Collider was operational, the Swiss asked him to throw protons at each other.

After a game, he doesn’t need an ice pack, his stare is icy enough.

Umpires ask him if a hitter went around on a swing.

He has won games in which he did not throw a pitch.

When he strikes batters out, they have to fight off the strong urge to thank him.

Opposing teams give away his bobbleheads.

He doesn't always drink beer, but when he does he prefers Coors.

Ubaldo doesn't make it out of the 6th. 6 ER allowed in 5.2 innings and responsible for another runner.

ERA is currently upto 1.60 pending the base runners status

Ok, that was one of the strangest outings I've seen from any pitcher ever. For the first three innings, Jimenez's fastball was sitting at 97-99 MPH, painting the black, and the Red Sox couldn't touch him. He comes out for the 4th, and, for whatever reason, he's throwing 94-96 MPH, right over the plate, and the Red Sox crush him, which they rightfully should have considering how he was throwing. I'm thinking either something went out of whack with his mechanics or he hurt himself. Whatever it is, I hope he's okay.

Jimenez has all the red flags for a prime candidate for juicing.

So...Ubaldo is now 15-1 in 17 starts.

Going on a 5 day rotation he has about 16 or 17 starts left. Now, if they are in a tight race down the stretch you can expect he probably goes on 3 or 4 days rest a couple times. I would guess he has 18 starts left.

Now, it is still mathematically possible for Ubaldo to get to 30 wins, and he is still on pace to get to 30 wins.

what's the record?
Charles "Hoss" Radbourn went 59-12 for the 1884 Providence Grays (National League).

Post-1900 (modern era), Jack Chesbro posted a 41-12 record with the 1904 New York Highlanders (Yankees).

Post-war (starting 1946), Denny McLain went 31-6 for the 1968 Detroit Tigers.

Since McLain, the most W's in one season is 27, done twice, Steve Carlton with the 1972 Philadelphia Phillies and Bob Welch with the 1990 Oakland Athletics.

Welch's mark was almost two generations ago, in baseball time. Since then, the high has been 24, posted two times -- John Smoltz with the 1996 Atlanta Braves and Randy Johnson with the 2002 Arizona Diamondbacks.

Carlton's mark is unlikely to be surpassed in terms of impressive, even if he gets past the raw number. Carlton went 27-10 that year for a team that only won 59 total games. Sported a pretty nice 1.97 ERA as well.

I'll be happy if Ubaldo's the first 25-game winner since Welch, and I think he will be.

What the hell are you smoking? Strasburg can't touch Ubaldo right now, he's a rookie that got his first two starts cherry picked and has been battered ever since. And who in the AL can compare? Price? Garza?
