The Cal Poly game is a one-and-done deal.

No no. NCCU is nothing like UD...they actually gave us a challenge.

Wow, these female chickens sure have thin skins.

Guess they will not take well to me pissing on their logo at the 50-yard line, vice on their famous wall of granite.

Hope the football blue bitches provide more of a challenge than their RPI-killing basketball team. This is really a Patriot league program with a marginally-better than Towson football team. ODU really should be scheduling up, but the CAA limits your level of competition somewhat.

OK Andy, now I understand your comments about ODU posters. You'd think they'd at least have beaten the Patriot League team they played last season before they denigrate that league. But no, a Fordham team with a losing record beat them. So did Monmouth, from the NEC, also a losing squad.

It's going to be fun watching reality set in as they play a couple of good squads this season and then the CAA meat grinder in 2011. We'll find out who's marginally better, or more likely worse, than Towson in 2011 when they play comparable schedules, instead of Chowan and the little sisters of the poor.

Are we even sure that JBBP is going to be able to make it up to Newark in 2011? My understanding is that it might be difficult for him to get back to his car in the commuter lot, with the impending strike of the ODU shuttle bus drivers.

This is why you have to love ODU...when you don't have a leg to stand on football-trash-talk wise, switch the subject to basketball. Wait until the costs of their football startup drain the AD and trickle into basketball...maybe they'll start bringing Sailing into the argument!

In all seriousness, I hope this develops into a nice rivalry. More of your fans up this way than JMWho? folks. I also hope we hang 70 on you in the early goings, if only to get revenge for a late 90's embarrassment at the hands of your Swim/Dive teams (we got 1-2-3-4'd in almost every event, and the teams came onto the deck singing the "I feel like Chicken Tonight" song while doing the Chicken Dance  )

It really is surprising to see how upset a few comments 15 months prior to a football makes you guys. Actually refreshing to see some UD fans give a damn - all I have known is the basketball side, and UD is not represented well there (the women are, of course).

Agreed about a good rivalry, as the trip up the Eastern Shore is not too bad for either school, and we have a lot of excitement about our young program. Any smack is just that, as the reasonable among us have no illusions of the challenge of playing in the CAA south. We'll get there, though, and probably sooner than some will like.

I'll be there, shuttle strike or not. Hell, for that matter, I don't even live in Norfolk.

Should be a good battle for 1-1/2 quarters and give our reserves some CAA experience prior to meeting some real CAA-caliber competition.

I guess that leaves Waste Management at Foreman Field for homecoming.
Looks like you will be coming to our place 2011---assuming there's anything left of your team after Villanova, JMU, and Richmond.

I'm really looking forward to playing the Blue Hens. My brother-in-law is from Wilmington and went to UD in the early '60s. I've always been envious of schools with FB in the fall. Last year was a blast for Monarch fans in our first year with FB. As JBBP said in his last post, most Monarch fans are not disillusioned with the difficult tasks ahead of us. But I can say, lookout in several years when our program has its feet under it.
I look forward in '11 to tailgate with my CAA Brethren.

I don't think anyone around here is 'upset'. If you ever made it over to the now departed GoHens you'll know we've all been around the small talk block more than once. All in good fun.

I dated a girl that went to ODU....I even lived in Norfolk for a few months. I miss those D cups and the southern accent (she was from southern Virginia), but when she started coming home, night after night, with new names for "our kids", it was time to hit the road.

One thing I remember was her having fun with the town's adopted "song"..."We don't drink, we don't smoke, Nor-folk, Nor-folk!"

Except she did. :thumb:

Hilarious stuff!! You must be the Dane Cook of UD fans.....good to meet you Dane.

How do you guys not understand that this is a win win for ODU? If we lose, well, we should freaking lose, its our first year in the conference and our third year of football in the modern age. We are supposed to lose so it wouldn't really be a big deal.

But if we win.....oh man, what will you guys have to hang your hats on then? Lacrosse? Bowling? You might as well fold up shop for good if we beat you in our first year in the CAA.

I personally can't wait because I guarantee you we win at least 1 CAA game in 2011, maybe even 2.

I agree, Razor. It's a veritable sh|ttalker's wet dream scenario. Imagine being able to gaurentee 1, maybe 2 wins in your first year and be able to back it up with, "Well, if we go winless, we were supposed to go winless!" And behind the guise of a keyboard, no less!

I don't think you should take the UD fans as seriously as you do the JMU folks. We're not all hot-n-bothered that you're developing a football program. In fact, we're happy for you guys. We get to say "See, told you so! Football's good for your school!" We can now turn our quest to deliver football to the CAA masses to the punks at Mason and Richmond Community College.

Looking forward to having you all on board full-time.

I was here because we were beginning football and I wanted to get a feel for the FCS sport.

Yes, you probably will.

On the surface, ODU won't have a chance. But after scratching the surface, maybe it won't be a blowout. The Monarch starters will likely have more career game experience going into that game. If, and that is a big "if", the talent level is any good (looks good so far but unproven) and after factoring in the experience, we could be competitive.

All that said, Old Dominion is building for speed and deception. If you have equal speed, your size will eventually determine the outcome. Looking forward to traveling up to that game, if for nothing more than using the bathrooms.

Here is what everyone doesn't get. Yes, we went 9-2 against crappy teams. But we did it with nothing but freshman and redshirt freshman and a few transfers.

By the time these kids are all juniors and seniors, they could be very, very good. They will ALL have been together 3 to 4 years and have unbelievable team chemistry. It's not that far fetched to think they could be .500 in the CAA by their senior seasons.

I wonder what JMU or UD's record would have been against the same schedule starting nothing but their freshman and redshirt freshman. It would make for an interesting debate.

The gap between great and crappy in FCS is huge. That'll become more apparent for you as time goes on.

How so? I've said time and time again that ODU should and will be challenging for a conference title by as early as 2013. I'd say that's pretty positive on my part. I was just taking issue with the glossing over of how bad the teams were on last year's schedule - it doesn't matter what players you used, those teams were abysmal.
