First Rd Attendance numbers

Post by weberwildcat »

The numbers around the nation sure were pathetic. It was shocking to see each box score.

Almighty App State crowd - ATTENDANCE: 13,712...thats it? All I heard was about their giant crowds and the stadium needs to be expanded.

Good thing Villanova hosted a game - ATTENDANCE: 4,489

Very impressive Richmond, no wonder you hosted - ATTENDANCE: 2,994 LOOOL! WTF????

SIU hosted New Hampshire for no reason - ATTENDANCE: 5,461

Maybe they should host a 16 team tournament in Missoula!!
UM game - ATTENDANCE: 19,489

#1 James Madison - ATTENDANCE: 12,826

Northern Iowa had one of the biggest crowds! - ATTENDANCE: 8,477

Cal Poly - ATTENDANCE: 6,919

Nice playoffs...

Shoulda gave WSU/UM/Cal Poly all their own home game.

Sorry...

I just looked at all the stadiums on this site. I guess App State and JMU games were near sellouts. For the last 10 years I thought Weber's stadium was very small...it was interesting to find out its one of the bigger FCS stadiums in the nation - lol!

You realize this was Thanksgiving Weekend, right?

Weber won't get a home game without a seed most likely. Their attendance was better than only Colgate among the playoff field coming in.

The UNI Dome was a little over half full. There was good support from the regular ticket holders. The student turnout was terrible. If there was 500 students there I'd be surprised.

Actually App was nowhere near a sellout. Our "capacity" is just over 20,000. Our average attendance this regular season was 28,710. We had two games over 30,000. There were three reasons the SC State game was hardly attended: 1) Thanksgiving weekend, 2) 12:00pm game, 3) Bad weather predicted. Since we live on a mountain, many people are worried about driving up here from Charlotte and Raleigh because of the possibility of icing. Fortunately, it didn't snow or ice and the roads were fine. Our record for a playoff game is 24,140, and I would expect over 25,000 for the Richmond game on Saturday. There isn't rain expected between Friday and Monday, so it should be a great game!

Weber needs a little support from its own state, not even Utah's own media will talk about them, they are more insterested in BYU and U of U, who are getting there money bowls, and Utah State who for the 12th year in a row won less than 4 games. how exciting, Weber State is Making history, and nobdy knows it, thanks to the Salt Lake based media, they never mention if Weber plays, or after the game do they show the score, Weber's only press is a newspaper based out of Ogden. How sad.

Weber's last attendance in Stewart Stadium was 8,841, in a Stadium that hold 17,500. thats pathetic. Especially considering that Weber State was undefeated in the Big Sky, In Mcbrides first year at Weber State, Weber beat Western State 61-0 in front of a record croud of 17,924. Weber State was forced to bring in extra bleachers. that was the loudest I have ever heard Stewart Stadium. Where have all those fans gone?

For the most part, FCS teams suffer the same lack of coverage. UMass, for example, is the flagship school in the system, but we're in the western part of Massachusetts...out of sight, out of mind...

The Boston Media gives us little to no attention (hell, Northeastern is right in Boston and gets little attention) because they have a "real" football school in Boston College...

The biggest amount of coverage UMass gets comes from the Northampton Gazette, with the Springfield paper doing a fair job...

Weber state was NOT undefeated in big sky play. remember that. And yes its sad the div 1aa gets no respect from the gen. public/media. eastern washington is mostly known on the eastern side of wash. Most west washington high school students dont know it exists. Im from LA, and when i got recruited, i was thinking what the fvck is div 1aa?/big sky? im not knocking the division or conference.(which are both great) but its sad that when i was growing up, its an unsaid rule that if u doont goto ucla or usc it doesnt really count.

Before they played EWU they were 7-0 in the Big SKy Conference. That was what I was talking about, that was Weber's last home game.

Well when App State starts losing again im pretty sure over three quarters of those numbers will vanish due to "sunshine fan" syndrome...if you look at your average attendance before they started winning it was roughy around 16000 per game, alot of the die hards are on here it seems :D

...so if the TBirds take off, will they seat 25k?

Are there even 26k people in Cedar City?

http://www.cedarcity.org/index.asp?nid=308
History
CEDAR CITY

Cedar City, with a population of 27,000, is the largest community in Iron County and is located at the mouth of Coal Creek in south-central Utah. Its elevation is 5,800 feet above sea level, and it lies in a semi-arid part of the state with 10,000-foot mountains to the east and a vast desert area to the west.
Maybe, just maybe, if all the businesses close for the day, the police and fire departments take the day off, and you empty out the care homes... ;)

...just won't be the same, SUU. Football is religion in the south and east...even "traditional" communities like Cedar City don't hold a candle to the communities you'll find in the VA's and Carolinas. Take away the "architectural gingerbread" at Eccles Stadium and you have a stadium easily found at HS's throughout Texas, some SE's schools, Florida and California.
I'm not trying to bag on SUU...it's a beautiful campus, in a beautiful city, (that needs a better selection of grocery stores), but anyone out west that wants to dis Appy's fan base as temporary is just pissin in the wind.

Nope, that myth has already been debunked. The championships have most certainly helped, but it was a change in leadership, a new AD, and the return of a game day (tailgating, etc.) atmosphere that really got things moving.

2005 attendance (prior winning the first title and coming off a lackluster 7-4 season):

September 26: Coastal Carolina (23,267)
October 15: Georgia Southern (21,486)
October 29: Chattanooga (22,338)
November 12: Western Carolina (25,584)

Looks like pretty robust numbers to me. ;)

Attendance, you should know how i feel about THIS shit. anyway i gotta take my hat off to app state and montana. they regularly pack their 20k+stadiums. nor col, sac st, (ewu  ) gotta step it up.

nor col is a small place without a large city around it so theyve gotta have school support as well as local advertising. sac-town and spokane are decent cities and sac st & ewu have got to get some tv advertising in the mix, offer discounts, and make a better tailgating/fun/party atmosphere. More attendance=better team performance=more fun & better Div1aa experience. especially since Wash st and Udub have about 2 wins combined :geek:
