Here's the thing:

The only reason to say that a woman can't terminate a pregnancy is that doing so means she's killing another individual. The idea is that it's not just a matter of a woman doing what she wants with her own body. Someone else's "body," someone else's existence, is involved. The point of being against allowing women to choose abortion is that when they make that choice they kill somebody else.

That being the case, there is no WAY you legitimately justify saying that abortion becomes "OK" if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. The unborn individual is not responsible for the action of its father. If it has a right to live, the fact that its father was a rapist or guilty of incest does not change that.

The position that abortion should be prohibited EXCEPT in cases of rape and incest is totally indefensable. Either you're killing somebody or you're not. If you are, it's wrong and it shouldn't be allowed regardless of how the conception occurred. If you're not, there's absolutely no basis for interferring with the woman's choice at all.

Democrats want to control who someone can and can't marry too...government sanctioned marriage is bad any way you slice it. Think about it Travis, having to get a marriage license is a form of control (restriction). It's time to end government sanctioned marriages and the "benefits" that come with it.

As to abortion, I think most everyone is "pro-life." I don't think anyone WANTS to kill innocent life (as was mentioned before). I'd hate to think of being in the situation of an unwanted pregnancy. While I'm personally against convenience abortions, I certainly don't think the government has a right prevent us (my wife and I) from having an abortion if it would save my wife's life. That's absurd. I support the idea of following the 10th Amendment, but I'm also a realist, and it's clear current abortion law isn't changing anytime soon.

As to guns (yeah, I know reverse order), the 2nd Amendment is clear, and should be observed. However, it's also clear it's not a free reign for citizens to have any weapon they desire (regardless of purpose)...though, I certainly lean towards less regulation.

That's my attempt at a "common-sense" approach.

But it is fascinating to listen to people get so worked up about killing innocent lives

I'm pro- choice. I'm all for a woman's ability to choose to have sex or not. But like with all choices, you must live with the consequences. I'm also for holding the man legally and financially responsible for the child's care. When did we become a society of unaccountability?
