Huh?kalm wrote:False! They have payroll taxes, sales taxes, etc. Remember Warren Buffett's secretary? She pays a higher percentage of her income in taxes than he does. Exxon Corporation paid no federal income tax last year...Franks Tanks wrote:
Touche-- this is true.
There was a recent report that about 49% of people do not effectively pay federal income tax. And in a lot of states lower income people do not pay state taxes either. That is a large chunk of the uneducated. And as far as sales tax goes, a lot of states don't tax clothing or food. Prepared food, sure...but basic groceries...no. So, unless some lower income folks...those who are for the most part uneducated (notice the word "most")...are wasting their money on cigarettes, booze, and other non-essentials, then they are not paying taxes.
And don't bring corporate taxes into the conversation...we are talking voters. Last time I checked, Exxon didn't walk into a voting booth to select a candidate.
One other thing...did anyone bother to find out what Warren Buffet's secretary's income was in that "discovery"? Some AAs make a damned nice salary...well into the 6 figures. And the really good ones are not uneducated fools (although they might vote that way).
