Not at all - the CAA's never had a debacle like what was seen with France, England, Italy, etc. When the CAA isn't good enough, they don't get extra teams in (i.e. 2006 with only getting two teams in). And when the CAA gets teams in, they can and have won on the road as well. Europe's been historically heavy on the homefield advantage (England in '66, France in '98, never winning outside of the continent until likely this year). No correlation between the two at all - if the CAA got Rhode Island into the tournament then we could start talking similarities.

Eh, still doesn't change my opinion that Europe gets too many teams into the tournament. And what a difference a round makes here. Only having 3 European teams make the quarterfinals was one of the worst showing by Europe in decades, but now all of a sudden because those 3 European teams make the semis this is supposed to herald some era of European dominance? Please, that is bunk. Spain, Germany, and the Dutch looking good (especially the last two, who are actually two favorites of mine) doesn't erase the debacle that was France, that was Italy, that was England, that was Greece, and so on and so on. When Brazil was the only South American team dominating past tournaments it didn't mean the whole continent was good. And if Europe gets someone the title this time (and I'm rooting for that Dutch/German final) that doesn't hide the fact that many of the giants of Europe looked particularly average in this tournament, like they do whenever they need to leave the home continent.
Did you just not read the paragraph I quoted at all? :? I'm not sure how you can brush aside the fact that only TWICE in the last 40 years has Europe had fewer than three teams in the semis. Okay, South America had all of their teams make it to the knockout round. How have they fared since?
I brushed it aside as easily as you brushed aside the worst showing ever by Europe into the quarterfinal round - never had Europe gotten so few teams into the quarterfinals as they did this year. That speaks a lot to the depth of that federation and when that federation has the lionshare of entrants that says quite a lot.

Nonsense - everyone knew Maine didn't deserve to be there, even CAA people. We can't be blamed for obvious selection flaws like that.

3-1 as Orange Crush pours it on (just in case that last goal really was offsides) - looks like I might need to decide on dressing the boys in Orange on Sunday or going with the black and white for Germany - decisions, decisions.

Damn - 1-0 Spain right now, 78th minute. Germany hasn't looked the same without Mueller, just adding more fuel to my burning hatred of the stupid yellow/red card system in soccer. Guy gets 2 yellows over the course of 2 separate games and he has to sit out the 3rd. Again, way too much ability for a ref to impact a game, including an upcoming game he's not even part of. On the bright side, I'll be able to root hard for the Dutch without any reservation on Sunday now.

There will be a first time World Cup winner - Spain goes through with a 1-0 win over Germany. Go Dutch.

I was pulling for the Germans. The final could have been black and orange, which would have looked cool as hell.
