Pick up any New York newspaper this past spring & they're ripping the folks at the Garden for the ineptitude & lack of direction that both the Knicks & Rangers have. When the Garden goes dark by mid-April year after year, GannonFan is right, when people across the country hear the words "Madison Square Garden" the first think they're thinking is "that's where the Big East Tourney is".
BTW- that's a great tournament to goto, been there 3-4 times myself.
A lot of people from New York's largest southern suburb believe this.
What's the name of the arena in Philly these days? Hard to keep track of what sleazy bank is the latest to acquire naming rights, you know.

Uh, the Knicks aren't exactly the Yankees, Jolt.
But the Knicks play in the greatest city in the US, by far, and in one of the most famous arenas in the world. They are currently the 2d most valuable franchise in the NBA, although they often rank as No. 1.
On top of that, New York City is a basketball crazed city. The Knicks play in front of a sell-out crowd of over 20,000 per night, and their TV ratings are so good that they are the cornerstone of their own sports network (MSG). While most NBA franchises play in arenas named after sleazy banks, the Knicks still play in the arena with the most hallowed name of them all -- Madison Square Garden.
And they do all this without putting a winner on the floor for years and years. What franchise in the NBA could still sell out every night putting out the product that the Knicks have?
Lebron could have brought success to the Knicks and become the new face of the NBA, but now he's never going to get to the level of Jordan or Magic. New York was ripe for the taking. In New York, they would have named a portion of Broadway after Lebon, but he decided to go to a second-rate city.
Some other guy is going to turn the Knicks around. He will probably never be as good as Lebron, but he will be more popular and will ultimately make more money.
Holy hell! A snobbish, elitist New Yorker. Never thought I'd see the day.

You can call it whatever you like, it's a much nicer building than MSG. I bet MSG was a great building back in the days before electricity.
David Stern has fined Gilbert $100,000.00 for the letter. Stern also said that Jesse Jackson was "mistaken" in his reaction to Gilbert's comments and also said that James' decision special was "ill-conceived".

And I bet that 100k went right into Stern's pocket, because he's also a selfish greedy bitch with no spine.
