Fatass unathletic american league DH, gets thrown out at 2nd by a superior athlete, and costs his team a chance to win. :thumb:

I'm finding it somewhat ironic that Charlie Manuel was described as not being able to "manage his way out of a wet paper sack" earlier in the thread, yet one manager at the end of the game had his defensive outfielders on the field and the other manager didn't pinch run for David Ortiz, who was pegged at second by one of those outfielders. I wonder which one was Charlie Manuel?

I thought that was fucking hilarious. Right up there with the funniest/most embarrasing plays in All-Star history...and I'm an NL fan.

List of things that are better managers than Charlie Manuel:

Mustard
Most rocks
Clint Hurdle
Everyone who has ever played for the Royals
My dog
Dick Jauron
Clingingmars
Members of the small African tribes who do not know what television is, much less baseball
Omar Infante
Me
Ringo Starr
Everyone who has ever been born on a day ending in Y
Steve Bartman
That bird that was flying around on the field during that one Raiders game last season
The Diamondbacks bullpen
The old stuffed seal I owned as a small child that was missing an eye
Corky from Life Goes On

Okay, I think I made my point.

FIFY

Charlie is an excellent motivator, one of the best. Look at all the injuries that the Phillies have had this season, yet they are only 5.5 games out and only two out in the loss column for the wild card. Last year the Mets had similiar injuries and the team had already given up at this point.

He may not be the best X's and O's guy, but X's and O's don't mean anything if the players don't execute. I'd rather have a motivator than an X's and O's guy.

I heard on the radio this morning that the All-Star game had it's lowest TV rating ever.

That reinforces what I have been saying all along, the game is meaningless.

The A.S. game used to be one of the premier sporting events of the year, now most people don't care. It needs to be fixed, but even then it will never get back to the level of relevance that it once enjoyed.

I suggest the following:

Reduce the roster back to 25 players. This way only the best players are there, and they play more. Once upon a time Ted Williams started a game - and later won it on a walk off hit. Now days the starters are gone by the 6th inning.

Get rid of the "every team gets represented rule". This rule may have made sense when there were only 8 teams in each league and there was no national media to report on the game.
