Yeah I saw that thread too. But then again, it's eGriz. I'll believe it when I see it.

UM vs Tennessee would be awesome.
And then another quote said that Pflu said we're playing "an SEC team that is the only SEC team in the state"

So yeah, take all that "inside" info for what it's worth
Which means either no Tennessee, or Pflu doesn't realize that Vanderbilt is in Tennessee as well :)

Single SEC in state teams:
Kentucky
South Carolina
Georgia
Florida
LSU
Arkansas

You're smoking something if you think that will be a good game. UNC will likely wax W&M as bad as VT waxes JMU. UNC had one of the top defenses in the nation last yr, returns 10 starters off that defense, and has as many as a half doz from that defense who could go in the 1st 2 rounds. Good possibility will be the best defense in the nation. Their defense will be absolutely sick.

Mel Kiper has released his top 5 players at each position and five Tar Heels have made the list, each in the top 3 at their respective spot.
The Carolina players on Kiper’s Big Board include:
* No. 1 DT Marvin Austin
* No. 1 ILB Quan Sturdivant
* No. 1 OLB Bruce Carter
* No. 2 S Deaunta Williams
* No. 3 TE Zack Pianalto

Kiper and McShay both have have 4 from the UNC defense in the 1st round in their 11' draft board. Thus former NFL scout has three:

I doubt W&M gets any points on the UNC starting defense. Only thing that might keep this from getting ugly is the UNC offense won't likely be that good, so W&M might be able to keep them in the upper 20s-30s, provided the W&M offense doesn't let the UNC defense score.

Silenoz: How disingenuous can you get? Reaching back to the bloody Mooshagian era to make predictions about the current Hornet squad? THAT's reaching just as much as my relying on Stanford's typical early season doldrums, if not more so.

Hmm, I just laid out every FBS game the Hornets have ever played. And they got destroyed in every one except CSU. And they're gonna beat the team that kicked the living shit out of USC?

The bad apples that led to the Mooshagian FBs collapses are no longer here, Silenoz. To assume otherwise, well, you know what they say about assuming....

OK, so maybe I overstated the case. It's certainly POSSIBLE. My points are valid, whether people want to accept them or not. I DO NOT subscribe to the bogus theory that FBS is an automatic loss for FCS. Never have, never will. If a 3-8 UOP team can take down a Pac-10 school, then so can a playoff-capable Hornet team. Maybe it's not the "done deal" I claimed, but it's certainly possible.

I'm thinking you need to be realistic is all. If UM was playing Stanford, I'd predict a 35-14 final

C'mon now Sil, since when was the last time anyone was able to gauge UM against any FBS team. ;)

Elon at Duke should be close. We lost 2 OL and Terrell Hudgins, but we have the rest of the offense back, we lost a lot of DBs, but we have a good group for this year. If we can come out strong, I think we'll pull it off.

Gardner-Webb takes on the MAC bottom dweller University of Akron Fighting Zips on September 11 after a first week warm-up game against D. II Brevard. Akron was 3-9 in 2009 with 1 TD wins over Kent State [5-7] and Eastern Michigan[0-12]. Seems to me this may provide our boys with an opportunity for an upset.

If Montana is at Stanford during the first week, I take the Griz by a couple of TDs. If Montana goes in too much later, Stanford wins by 3-4 TDs.

When I say Sac beats Stanford, it's much closer than that early and wider than that late.

Agreed elcid.....LU has a good chance at Ball State too, the Big South going 2-0 against the MAC would be sweet.

As much as I would like to see W&M beat UNC, and hope to be there to see it, I don't think it will happen. When your all time record against a team is 0-12-2, it's not a good sign, even if you haven't played in a while.

That being said, both teams will have better defenses than offenses and I don't see it turning into the rout that I expect JMU@VaTech to be, especially since Chapel Hill does not usually have the home field advantage of Blacksburg.

Of course, now you have to ask if the top UNC players will be able to play? Anybody heard anything new about the investigations to see if Austin et al will be suspended?
