After the 1953 football season, the New York Giants' head coach Steve Owen retired. As his replacement, the Giants hired the head coach from Wagner College, Jim Lee Howell. In February 1912, new U.S. football rules were put into motion. The playing field was decreased from 110 yards to 100 yards, a touchdown was 6 points instead of 5, four downs were allowed instead of three, and kickoff was moved from midfield to the 40-yard line.

My dad's highschool (labette county, KS) was winless for 8 years straight(in the 60's), with him at quarterback for 2 of those years. One would think youd want to try changing quarterbacks, but to each his own I guess.93henfan wrote:My sister's class ('93) at my alma mater (Milford HS, DE) went 0-40 in football. The first head coach of the Cleveland Rams, Hugo Bezdek (5-13 1937-1938), is the only man to be an NFL head coach AND an MLB manager (Pittsburgh Pirates 1917-1919). He also coached football, baseball, and basketball at the collegiate level, in addition to coaching the Mare Island Marines in the 1918 Rose Bowl.
Offensive back Fred Gehrke created the first NFL helmet logo when he painted horns on his Rams helmet in 1947. On the field, he's best known for scoring two TDs the first two times he touched the ball in the 1945 NFL Championship Game vs. Green Bay.
UCLA back Kenny Washington broke the professional sports color barrier when he signed with the LA Rams in 1946, months before his UCLA teammate Jackie Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

My high school (Scotlandville) changed school names 3 times, mascots and school colors 2 times, and location once in between district titles. 1974 and 2008
Re: Random Football Facts
On the topic of high schools...
Since 1996 when the state of Iowa went to it's current district format, my high school has won 11 of the 14 district titles, been in 6 state title games (only one victory), 3 state semi finals appearances, and 2 quarter final appearances. They have been ranked #1 in the state in 7 different seasons, and have been top 5 (including preseason) in 13 of the 14 seasons since 1996. The two season's that we didn't win the district but were top 5 at one point in the season were seasons where we lost 19 of 21 starters, and were ranked based on school history, and the other season we lost 4 games by a total of 6 points.
My high school team is also 48-5 in the last 14 years against teams who run a wing-t style offense.
