Best and worse FCS college towns?

it's bad, but it's tolerable on game days because there's actually people there.

Weber State is at 4,300 feet. 10 min from campus you can climb a mountain to the top which is 10,000 feet! lol

the mountain directly behind WSU hosted the down hill/super g at 2002 olympics.

(JMU) Harrisonburg Va isn't a city or even a big town but it has a lot offer; JMU draws from Wash DC and Richmond with easy interstate access from both, 2 hrs each. H'Burg has two mountain ranges (Shenandoah Valley)...hotels and especially restaurants are getting better all the time...JMU's tailgate has gotten large and nothing is better than beer/cigar/smoked brats on a cool Fall Saturday morning!

Having been to Harrisonburg a few times, I got to say that it's a pretty nice place to visit. Partially because I know some recent alum from there who know where to go. Still for a college town I'd say it's alright.

I'm just glad there's UNC students and Greeley Commerce recognize the problem and are trying to do something about it. The Bear Aware program is a good way to get going in that direction. I posted a link to the story in the Greeley Tribune that appeared yesterday about the program. I hope it works, but they've got a big up-hill challenge.

Washington DC (Georgetown) and Providence RI (Brown from FCS, plus Providence College and Johnson and Wales) also come to mind as nice college towns in the northeast.

The bars are as pricey as the school though. One of the great things about being in the middle of nowhere is the cost of bars/restaurants.

Carbondale is a great town, lots to do

I only personally know one SIU grad and he said Carbondale was awful. He did graduate in 86, so it could be different today.

CCU and surrounding area are great, but don't hang your hat on those tourist traps. That would be like putting South of the Border on your list.

Pedro says Towson is 463ft above sea level. Why some people are using that as a basis on being a college town or not, I haven't a clue.

Statesboro is a great college town. Small southern town with a big university. Great weather if you can stand heat, unreal hotties, and a lot of character. GSU's campus is beautiful, and now the town is really growing around the university.

Worst college towns I've been to are Columbia, SC, Cullowhee, NC, and Chatty, Tennessee.

Skins how dare you not include the gnats or the picturesque banks of vlovley eagle creek !

Our resident UNC fan and Ursus turned it into a mountain pissing match. I'm looking forward to my visit to the Canadian Rockies next month - I doubt they're as awesome as Montana or Colorado, but I'm sure they'll be much nicer than these old worn out hills we have on the East coast.

Compared to whom? Cedar Falls is bigger in population than Amherst and who's calling Cedar Falls a big city? Heck, Missoula is almost twice the size of Amherst - does that make Missoula a metropolis now?

89...dead on about the cost of bars/restaurants. Another reason I'll tout Providence a bit more. Restaurant scene is awesome thanks to J&W.

And yeah...Google image some aerial pics of Amherst, MA (particularly the UMass campus). Only compared to a select few would someone call it "big city".

Canadian Rockies kick the crap out of what we have in the lower 48, including Montana and Colorado. If you drive from Banff to Jasper you'll be in awe.
It's like Glacier Park on steroids.

To keep the thread on track: Never been to Greeley so I can't rank it, but I've been to all the other Big Sky towns. Pocatello is definately last. It sounds like Greeley may be in competition for the last spot though.
