Almost all of the buildings were reconstructed in the 1900's by the Rockefellers... and they demolished nearly 1,000 buildings (many that were actually historic) in order to build the colonial Disney World. Some of their buildings were rebuilt quite accurately... many were not. :ohno:

It hasn't "pretty much been that way for a good 300-400 years now."
Sounds like you took HIS 5585 Historic Preservation at AppSt.
No, not offered. But, my mom is an Historic Preservation Officer for Tidewater Virginia with the state DHR.

As for me, I wouldn't trade my time in Boiling Springs for anything...G-W is the town, plain and simple. No, not alot to do, and the town is still dry, which still makes it challenging I am sure for the G-W students, especially the future preacher-types, to partake in alcohol. :D I made good use of my golf bag as a hiding place for a fifth of Crown or Jack back in my days there anyway, you still have the strict campus rules on that stuff.

One nice thing that has taken shape just a couple of miles south of campus is the Broad River Greenway.....

And from experience, I wouldn't throw off on women from the Appalachian mountains so quickly....there are some fine fine specimens of the female form in Boone, but I'll let the Appy fans provide the proof. :notworthy:
You aren't kidding buddy!!! Visited campus last fall and there was farmland..........More farmland, cows, farmland and then GW. The school had about 6 resturants on one side of campus, and thats pretty much all that was there.
Yeah, but you can drive 5 miles to Shelby, which a very nice little town with a Wal-Mart, or 15 miles the other direction to Gaffney, S.C. and view the Peach water tower!!!

Rating the Big Sky Confrence towns:

1. Montana: the stadium, during the game, is the best in the conference (sounds as loud as any FBS stadium). Missoula, the town, is quiet and generally harmless. Watch for the herds of elk on the mountains nearby
2. Montana State: fans are obnoxious and the town is like "watching paint dry." The mountains are nice, though.
3. Sacramento State: fan support is poor; more like a bad high school game. There is alot to do in Sacramento; good theatre, pro sports, restaurants, etc. The Kings still suck!
4. Northern Arizona: comfortable stadium (dome) where the fan support is minimal. Flagstaff is a great place to visit; near Grand Canyon, Sedona, etc.
5. Portland State: Football in a baseball stadium; fans are few but loud. Portland, if you don't mind the rain, has alot to do & see there.
6. Weber State: Ogden, UT is like the movie "Hoosiers". Stadium is not great and there's little to do there. They'll run "the picket fence" on you if you're not careful.
7. Northern Colorado: Greeley is the "place time forgot." If you can avoid it, the smell won't get to you. If you can't, just try and hold your breath. It'll take a few days to get over it.
8. Idaho State: The only redeeming quality is they play in a dome, so you're out of the cold. Quiet, sleepy town Pocatella will put the best to sleep.
9. Eastern Washington: Cheney, WA is not the end of the world, but you can see it from there! The stadium is terrible, the town is boring and putting red turf into the stadium is like putting "lipstick on a pig."

The BEST: Montana
The WORST: Eastern Washington

Test is bogus. Plus, my first though driving by was "oh, look at the giant peach." After driving by it about 30 times, you start to notice that it looks like a butt.

VMI was a interesting place to see a football game. Watching the parade before the game and watching the RATS doing that walk called straining. Its a different type of college atmosphere but it was cool seeing the campus.

Conway / Myrtle Beach SC- Coastal's campus is located minutes from one the eastern shores biggest tourist destinations; and that destination being Myrtle Beach. These are just some of the spots that make this area so great!

The best thing about Vermillion is seeing it the the rearview mirror, and when I said that to a person who went there they said, "Well thats why I'm up partying with you guys"

Old Dominion homer here (also a grad of Univ of Virginia)... Norfolk/Va Beach is a great place to have a football team. ODU sold out their first season ( ~ 20,000) and I believe has sold out their second as well.

PGE Stadium, mentioned above, isn't a "baseball park" anymore. They're totally re-doing it into a major league soccer stadium with PSU football in mind, shaped in a U and holding 20,000 plus. We'll be playing ithis year in Hillsboro county stadium, seats around 12,000, while they re-do PGE. Hillsboro is open and drafty - forget football this year; on to 2011. Portland, 1 million plus, has a lot of attractions, with the river running through it and trolleycars to everywhere. Microbreweries (and Starbucks) on every other corner.

I'm with ya there - Portland is a great town, with the Columbia River parkway, Mt. Hood, Multnomah (sp?) Falls and the afforementioned microbreweries :thumb:

Unlikely, as the crowd I hung out with weren't football fans. Odds would go up if you 1-worked at the caf or college pub, 2-lived at JBT 43 or Dawson Hall, 3-played a lot of tennis, 4-majored in biology. PM me anytime.
