Montana, a perennial contender, doesn't have near these facilities, and frankly most Montanans don't go for this costly, unnecessary, window dressing, altho WaGriz stadium is impressive. Yes, UM does have some facility issues when it comes to a possible move up to the FBS. But, Lord God Almighty! Stonework in the LOCKER room? :ohno:
Although Washington-Grizzly is amazing, Montana really, really really needs to upgrade the support facilities. It was too bad that the students voted it down, and I think that was mainly out of spite because of how the situation went down. The locker room for the Griz is tiny and needs to be expanded, along with the weight room. There was a video that someone posted that followed App St. last season, when it showed them in the visitors locker room in Washington-Grizzly stadium I was a little embarassed. The Griz need and upgrade bad, although we have had success getting athletes to come to Montana, better facilities could probably help us get a kid who might be on the fence with their decision.
Don't worry about it. ASU did not include plans to improve the visitor's locker room for football. The old fieldhouse still has two locker rooms and they make the visitors use the same visitor locker room as before which is tiny and at least 30 years old.

Re: stonework in the locker room - Coach Moore paid for that himself. He walked into the locker room several weeks before it was to be officially opened and didn't much like the exposed cinder block walls, so he made some calls and lined it up. The workers were there around the clock putting the stuff up before the season started. It's not over-the-top, it's a labor of love for a coach who found a home and success at a school and wanted to give just that little bit more back.

off-topic, but this is towards futurealum and the softball fields. When ODU released its campus expansion plan right before school ended, pictures showed two softball fields behind the Powhatan Sports Complex, replacing the high school football stadium. Apparently ODU expects to acquire that land.

edit, nevermind...it's exactly where we thought it'd be when we discussed it on monarchnation. my mistake:

I could care less what a visiting locker room look's like...I'd almost prefer my school to have the worst opposing locker room possible, but the home one should be better than the one a program like Montana has.

Crossing sports here, but before the Pittsburgh Penguins move into their shiny, new Consol Energy Center this upcoming season the locker rooms at Mellon Arena were the worst in major professional sports...tiny, cramped, smelly, ugly...and it was part of the home ice advantage the Penguins had. The home team had very nice amenities (now completely pampered in the new arena), but the road locker room was let to rot as bad as it could get for a reason.

Montana really does need to improve the facilities available though, for the sake of the athletes here. We have arguably the best stadium in the FCS but the rest of the facilities don't come close to that caliber.

as you can see our practice field isn't much. it isn't even lighted which means in the late fall the team practices in the stadium. last season the new end zone facility opened (weight room, meeting rooms, locker rooms, coaches offices, and suites). Rather than post a bunch of pics here's a thread from last year about it:

Thats pretty bad, I could be wrong or right but I'd imagine ODU's visitor locker room is pretty bad as well. I've never actually seen the inside of it but it looks to be pretty small from the outside. It's located in one of the corners of the clam shells at Foreman Field.

thanks ∞∞∞! I never actually noticed where they were going to put the softball fields when I looked at the expansion presentation. I actually like that spot next to the SRC. :thumb:
