"Hemphill joined the Hofstra staff as a defensive assistant in 2006 when Cohen was named head coach and later served as defensive backs coach for three seasons and special teams coordinator for two years. Hofstra led the CAA and ranked No. 4 in the nation in pass defense in 2008 and ranked second in the league in interceptions with 12 in 2007. The 2009 team ranked fourth in the CAA in pass defense. On special teams, Hofstra ranked second in the CAA in kickoff returns in 2008 and fourth in 2009."
Hemphill was with some of the Hens staff about a month ago wearing a Hens shirt as they helped instruct a football camp. He previously was a UD grad assistnet who followed Cohen to Hofstra.
Seems Hemphill did a solid job at Hofstra...maybe he'll also help our special teams.

On December 12, 1775 the Continental Congress created a Battalion of minuteman from the three counties in Delaware. Kent county militia were fans and owners of Game Cocks; Fight'n Blue Hens as they were called. The Fight'n Blue Hens became known far and wide as the very best Fighting Game Cocks around. Thus, the Blue Hen was established.
Best of luck to Hemphill, though i have to be honest, he was on my list of please get rid of him coaches. We had so many special teams blunders that it was comical at times. Hopefully he enjoys more success at UD.

Was it defending returns, an inability to return kicks, or on FGs? From the article, Hofstra ranked pretty high statistically in at least one area:
"On special teams, Hofstra ranked second in the CAA in kickoff returns in 2008 and fourth in 2009."
