College baseball said goodbye to a grand old stadium when the last out was recorded in Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium at the 2010 Men’s College World Series in Omaha.
This year’s event bridged the nostalgia of the past 6 0 years at Rosenblatt to the excitement of the CWS transitioning to its new home at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in 2011.
Omaha has hosted the CWS every year since 1950, and the decision to build a state-of-the-art stadium in downtown secured a 25-year agreement that the Division I Baseball Championship will continue to be played in the city.
“We often associate the venue with the event, and it’s good when those things blend together,” said Dennie Poppe, the NCAA vice president for Division I baseball and football. “But this is really about Omaha being more synonymous with the event than the venue. It was a tough decision, but for the future of the championship, it had to be made.”

Barring structural issues, I find that abandoning historic stadia is a dumb proposition. Can you imagine the ire if the BoSox ever leave Fenway or the Packers ever leave Lambeau? Particularly for baseball, the old places are a great place to take the kids. While the new places aren't the cookie-cutter stadia of the 60s-early 80s, the ambiance of an old stadium brings back memories of the players of yore.
Why can't people leave well enough alone?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Or the Yankees ever leave Yankees Stadium, or the Bears ever leave Soldier Field, or the Canadiens ever leave the Forum, or the Celtics ever leave the Garden.... eh. Nostalgia is great, but new stadiums are awesome.SuperHornet wrote:Barring structural issues, I find that abandoning historic stadia is a dumb proposition. That and Rosenblatt was a dump of a stadium. People talk about how "awesome" it was. No, the stadium itself wasn't awesome. The feel of the stadium during the CWS was awesome, Rosenblatt wasn't.89Hen wrote:Or the Yankees ever leave Yankees Stadium, or the Bears ever leave Soldier Field, or the Canadiens ever leave the Forum, or the Celtics ever leave the Garden.... eh. That same awesome feeling that fans got will still be there in the new stadium. The CWS is awesome because of the fans, not the stadium.

I've been to the College World Series several times, and it's a blast.
Rosenblatt was a great host of this great event.
I think the new facility will be an even better facility for the fans and players.
I can't wait to see it.

I hope to get to the CWS sometime, hopefully next summer. I went to UCLA vs. Cal State Fullerton regional out in LA, that was awesome.
If you don't like what I say you can PM me and get handled.

I agree that it sucks they are moving. I went this past year for the first time and the atmosphere was amazing. The weather sucked, but the place is amazing. There was nothing wrong with the stadium IMO. Plenty of leg room (I'm 6'3") when sitting down, lots of gates to enter and exit from , an ass-load of parking at a reasonable price ($10), etc etc etc.
I spoke to a guy who works for the company that is building the new stadium and he said it will be very nice, but very corporate unfortunately. Even he was disappointed lol.
