Im enjoying every ass kicking he is getting....

Maybe now people will shut up about comparing him to all time greats :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Ubaldo is only 26, and has to POTENTIAL to be an all time great, but whether he becomes one is yet to be seen.

i agree and i would love to see it happen.. the more guys today who become great just means fans today like me had the pleasure of seeing them so thats always good.

I dont hate him either. It just irked me people were comparing him to great pitchers when he has not yet done anything to deserve it... much less getting the comparisons after 6 weeks of a season. Thats what has gotten to me with him.

Oh fuck you, you douchebag. The fact is the first 15-16 starts of this season of his have been on par with the greatest seasons in MLB history. Now, his starts may vary, and he has some work to do but he still has a shot at 30 wins.

3 bad starts and 15 good starts is apparently over rated now.

You also think that fuckin Lester is as good as he is? HA

So you still believe that he can't, mathematically, win 30 games even still?

go look at the fucking schedule genius. start tomorrow counting to 5 each time u get to a day thats # 5 thats a start... feel free to count days too not games so he can get more starts as they would skip the 5th starter... which isnt a certainty... do the math genius he has 14 starts left... maybe at UNI 15+14 =30 but not in the rest of the world...

There are still over 60 games remaining, so, mathematically, every pitcher has a shot at 30 wins if not 60.

Realistically, the Rockies have 65 games remaining, so Jimenez should get 13 more starts. If he wins them all he will end up with 28 wins.

This makes for interesting comparisons

There really is no comparison. Pedro was the far more dominating pitcher after the first 20 games for each pitcher:

Pedro vs Ubaldo after 20 games

Strikeouts: 194 vs 120
Walks: 25 vs 55
ERA: 2.48 vs 2.75

What's even more impressive for Pedro are the numbers in his final eleven games.

Pedro, starts 21 through 31:

Strikeouts: 119
Walks: 12
ERA: 1.25

Wow. Just wow.

Ubaldo has pitched quite a few more shutouts at this point (I should say, games w/ no ER) than Pedro did though.

fine but Pedro in 1999 through July had 2 games of 4 ER or more. Ubaldo has 5 so far. Also Pedro didnt have another game with more then 3 ER the rest of the season... Right now are you comfortable even suggesting Ubaldo wont?

Also for what its worth.... if you want to compare Ubaldo to a great Pedro season the comparisons should be made with his 2000 season which is regarded as the best pitching season in history. through July Pedro had 7 games with 0 ER and never allowed more then 4 all season and he only allowed 4 ER once.

I don't know if he took roids or not either, but I'm pretty sure that he pitched to guys who did.

For the modern era, those at least need to be in the discussion.

they are but most rankings I have seen lists the Pedro season as #1... and perhaps the fact pedro did in in the steroid era that gave him the slight advantage to #1

Pedro also had to face DH lineups. Still, when I look at that '68 season and see Gibson's 1.12 ERA, that's a really impressive number. Of course, just about every uber stat geek online, once they apply their formulas and calculate the celestial circadian rhythms against the position of Venus, they mostly seem to agree with you that Martinez had the best season ever, even if he did give up over a half a run per game more than Gibson.

I also think the mound was higher when Gibson pitched.

Here are numbers that likely factored in

Whip

Pedro .737 Gibson .853

Ks

Pedro 284 in 217 IP Gibson 268 in 304 IP

ERA+ (Higher is better)

Pedro 291 Gibson 258

These three stats give Pedro significant advangtages over Gibson and that would easily have made up for the ERA difference

Pedro was on roids too, so it evened out.

According to the New York Daily News, Alex Rodriguez has been linked to a trainer that has been banned from all MLB clubhouses. That trainer, named Angel Presinal, was banned from all private areas in every major league ballpark after an October 2001 incident involving an unmarked gym bag full of steroids.

In addition to A-Rod, Presinal has worked with Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and former Sox Ace Pedro Martinez. He’s also connected to Juan Gonzalez, Vladimir Guererro, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre, Moises Alou, Jose Guillen, Ervin Santana, Ruben Sierra, Francisco Cordero, Jose Mesa, and Juan Guzman, among others.

Update, (07/30/09): Ortiz, Manny named on 2003 list

In news that is spreading like wildfire, the 2003 list of the 103 MLB baseball players who tested positive for steroids has been potentially leaked to the public. Rotoinfo.com posted the story this morning and it has been the talk of the town all day.

The biggest problem with the list is that the reports are completely unconfirmed by any major news source. Yes, this would make it a text book definition of a “rumor”, but come on, nobody else is backing this story up at all. Here is the list as it appears exactly at rotoinfo.com:

1.Nomar Garciaparra
2.Manny Ramirez
3.Johnny Damon
4.Trot Nixon
5.David Ortiz
6.Shea Hillenbrand
7.Derek Lowe
8.Pedro Martinez
9.Brian Roberts
10.Jay Gibbons
