NOAA: Year-to-Date Global Temperatures are Warmest on Record

Post by JMU DJ »

Last month’s combined global land and ocean surface temperature made it the warmest June on record and the warmest on record averaged for any April-June and January-June periods, according to NOAA. Worldwide average land surface temperature was the warmest on record for June and the April-June period, and the second warmest on record for the year-to-date (January-June) period, behind 2007.

The monthly analysis from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, which is based on records going back to 1880, is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides government, business and community leaders so they can make informed decisions.

Nothing to see here, just a left-wing conspiracy to destroy American industry and establish global communism. :coffee:

Yet, with this data they have yet to prove this is man caused.

not man caused.
women and feminism are totally to blame....

If the climate change doesn't suit you, it's because God hates you.

This just proves that scientists have more book sense than common sense. Common sense would tell you now would be the time to make the case for global warming, not in January when everyone is freezing to death.

Wait a second, I think you're on to something Jay.

Hair driers, aerosol, soccer mom's in SUV's, etc. 90% of global warming is clearly caused by unneccessary energy producing products and pollution to make women feel more comfortable and better about themselves. :ohno:

Except that it's supposed to be hot now. The best time to make a case for global warming is a warmer than normal January.

I agree with UNI31f, this data does not prove that global warming is caused by man.

Would that be January in Delaware or Queensland? ;)

Nothing more than a bunch of cherry-picking. There are plenty of places that saw MUCH below-average temps during the same timespan.

ALL of Cali was below average, DJ. Our local meteorologists back that up.

That's the conditioned response of the right wing, isn't it? And I totally agree with it. It's damned near impossible to lay cause to a phenomenon of a global scale. With all this mysterious mathematics that the pro-corporate folks hide behind, anything could be possible, no? So let's think in reverse:

With all this data, they have yet to prove this is not man caused.

So, we're not sure what's causing it, but it just happens to coincide with the industrial revolution and exponential population growth.

Hmmmmmm. I wonder which is closer to right?

So what causes ice ages, which don't have any periodicity to them? One guess is that they begin and end with CO2 level fluctuations. If that's the case, it shows that you don't need civilization to bring more CO2 into the atmosphere.

Oh, OK. So you're saying that the science is sound then? CO2 traps heat and contributes to global warming? That's kind of what I'm inclined to believe as well.

That doesn't mean that the rest of the world, or the world has a whole, wasn't warmer. It's possible that global warming has changed air currents in such a way that warm air that used to go to California is going somewhere else.

This is clearly illustrated in the first graphic that the clever Joo put up. While most of the world is boiling, both data points (roughly San Diego and San Francisco) on the coast of the land of fruits and nuts are indeed blue. What's particularly concerning is that Greenland and Siberia are roasting (compared to norms). That ain't good folks:

Pretty convenient that your chart starts at the approximate end of the little ice age.

Considering it is a graph comparing CO2 levels with global temperatures... I think the date chosen to start it has to do more with the timing of the Industrial Revolution.

I think that is when worldwide temperature measurements started. The data prior to that wouldn't be accurate.

I'm pretty sure that it is accepted that the world was once much warmer that it is now, but since there were no people present at the time we can't use those temperatures when discussing recorded history.
