I looked at your signees from the last 3 seasons on Rivals, and according to them, you are correct on the 5 you mentioned, but there aren't any additional to those 5. So we might have a tie there.

Assuming there are no others (I haven't researched but have no reason not to take your word) ... you wouldn't consider 8 out of 10 kids over 3 seasons having Richmond as their 1st choice versus being an interesting trend?

I'm not going to say anything bad about your stadium, because it's a great one. But let's not kid ourselves -- the fact that it was built by a Wofford alum who happened to own an NFL team and who happened to want said team to hold training camp there had a TINY bit to do with the size of the stadium, wouldn't you agree?

As soon as one of our grads buys the Redskins, we'll expand to a 6-tiered, 40,000 seat stadium.

I think this is just GREAT! What hatred is being expressed....by both sides!!! I want to add a little more hatred! I just cannot stand the Barneys! One of you "purple creatures" mentioned JMU's wins at "old UR Stadium" in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Well, turnabout is, as they say, fair play. Recall how the Barneys died in the SPIDERS WEB ON YOUR TURF in 2005, 2007 and 2009! Perhaps the recent trend of the visiting team winning the game will be joyfully changed this Nov. 6th, when the Barneys go limping back to Harrisonburg after being injected with massive amounts of UR Spider venum!! While you're at it, you can leave your JMU Marching Dorks back in Harrisonburg to greet the limping Dukes when they return to their dog house, I mean campus, the night of November 6th! Your Marching Dorks are not welcomed on the UR campus. I think it was great that the stadium lights were turned off on them at the old stadium a couple of years back! Oh I just love hating JMU!

On the level, this might be the most hateful thing I've ever seen in writing. It's as if jrj must have suckled at the teets of the Dark Lord himself, spewing this kind of venom. Sorry, I'm late to the party, but this thread (and post) was too good to pass up.

Because no one was kicking them out of University of Richmond (now, City) Stadium. Yes, the place was not beautiful and needed updating, was not close to campus, but moving was not a necessity. There was plenty of parking, plenty of capacity to accomodate higher demand games (especially with ODU coming on) and easy access in and out. The old stadium was not hurting UR's ability to recruit top notch players.

Actually, the city commissioned a study to see what better uses for the land could be, considering they have ~10 acres or so bringing in $1 a year. What would you have us do, wait until they demolish City before we began building? Also, recruiting visits never included a trip to the stadium. The new stadium will allow for more game-day visits, which will only allow us to increase recruiting.

I've yet to hear the plan to update the capacity of their field beyond 9K. Even with the tiny digs, they are already going to have trouble parking people on or near the campus, nevermind moving the traffic on the campus roads on gameday. The FB crowd is not the same as the hoops crowd. Much to the neighbors' chagrin, the FB ticket holders are not likely to park for two and a half hours and promptly leave.

It was built with expansion in mind, that's all that needs to be said. Yes, parking is going to be a bear, but there have been plans on the table for quite some time to add a parking deck on the biggest lot on campus. An increase of 5,000 seats would require ~1,650 new spaces. Roads are currently being improved to handle the increased volume, and a comprehensive traffic plan has been put into place. It will probably take a while to become as efficient as it should be, but the lessons learned now will only help when we expand.

This paragraph also shows your limited knowledge regarding traffic surrounding sporting events. Traffic for basketball games is much worse, even though it's a smaller crowd. The crowd arrives within a one hour window before the game, travels with fewer people per car, and leaves all at the same time. Football crowds come with more people per car, over a much larger time frame before the game (four hours) and a longer time after the game.

IMO, UR made this move with something very specific in mind and it probably doesn't include CAA FB over the long haul.

Odds are you have never met our President who is a HUGE athletic proponent. He'll tell you the football team's record since he took over (35-7) as he did with me a couple of weeks ago, when meeting on a completely different subject. UR isn't leaving the CAA unless we're forced out via conference shakeup or our conference mates.

The school that initially hesitated and was the last to join the CAA when they took over control of the FB league, appears to be moving in a direction opposite other schools in the conference.

Do you realize that we had an anti-athletic President when this took place, not the one we have now?

I thought the 22,600 that saw Virginia Tech beat UR 17-10 in 1986 at UR Stadium was our largest crowd, but I can't find a list of the top crowds anywhere. I would imagine the crowd for the 100th game back in 1990 must have been in that same ballpark

You may be correct. My information is second hand from my brother, who is a Richmond alum and I trusted because he has been keeping a close eye on UR football since 1973.

I'm calling BS unless you have some type of evidence. The 4 I listed were all offered by UR as you can see by clicking on the link then clicking on under "College choices" "show all". UR wouldn't give them an offer if they couldn't get them in.

Now lets see if you can come up with 5 that UR signed in the last 3 yrs who were also offered by JMU.

Schools offer kids who don't qualify all the time. Offers often go out before a senior year has begun. 1/4 of their HS career is left and for many athletes, tests have not yet been taken. Dre'Quan Scott was a perfect example. At this point, it would seem you got the raw end of the deal on that, pending his felony....

Biggest crowds I can recall in my history of UR football since 96 are UR-WM in 1998, UR-JMU 08, UR-WM 2009.

Pretty good crowds for VMI games, but nothing near those others.

Agreed - UD brings 2k to 3k for a game, but if that's enough to set records for you then your own fan's attendance would be the primary driver behind that.
