Bobcat Stadium is on Aquarena Springs Dr. The street that goes along the back of it (one v. long block over) is Hopkins. In fact, the baseball stadium is on Charles Austin Dr and Hopkins. San Marcos is served by Grande Communications cable. They just put this billboard up along Hopkins. Taking ideas for demolition, destruction, defacement......

Well there is always the typical arson. but thats boring. and you could always take a box of 12 gauge shells and turn it into a target practice sheet like at the firing range. but again boring. Spray painting the bobcat logo over colts face and and writing screw em horns under it would be a nice touch. I have a friend who is an A-10 warthog mechanic at laughlin AFB i'm sure he'd have some buddy's who would like to use it for target practice.

It was beside the #1 off campus text book and UNC Charlotte merchandise seller. The billboard lasted 1 day. We organized on facebook and our main message board and bombarded the billboard company. They took that down quickly. We don't consider UNCP, which is DII and only 5000 students, as a competitor, but it was still a bad location choice. Yet, I'd rather have another school's sports billboard across from our campus than have a school in the same system open a medical school extension program in our own city, just so we won't start our own medical school.

I'd bomb Grande's email and phonelines.

BILLINGS – Note to anyone playing paintball in bear country: Turns out the smell of all those disintegrating balls can be a bear attractant.

Big Sky Resort found out in mid-July after black bears, including a sow with cubs, showed a fondness for its newly opened paintball course set up on the side of its ski hill this summer. The course was quickly shut down and the resort’s management is considering its options.

In the meantime Randy Stevens of the San Marcos Daily record commented on the uproar. The guy is a UT homer anyway and he is really clueless about what is changing on campus and in San Marcos where TXST is concerned

If this is a SM based company they are out of touch. If it's a statewide campaign, why does it say 'Hey Bobcats' on there? Do all the other signs in Texas have 'Hey Bobcats'? If not, then they have regionalized it and they could very well have also changed what is sticking out on that football.

Or have the competing cable or satellite company put up a billboard right across the street that says, "Just like McCoy, Grande Communications cable goes down and is of no use when you need it the most. Don't settle for second place, and have Nick Saban as the spokesperson."

I see the most potential fun in the defacement category.


It wouldn't take two guys with a ladder 45 minutes to change "Get Hooked" into "Get *ucked". Do a good job and it might be days before it gets noticed/reported.


I'd go with "Get *ucked by AGS".

I get your frustration. In football crazy states like TX and GA there is soooo much of a turf war its ridiculous. You guys are kind of in the situation we are in, in that you're a huge university being overshadowed by the big in-state traditional powers. Good for you guys that you didn't take it laying down.

Grande has been a long-time supporter of Texas State students and athletes and we will continue to do so. We sincerely respect the university and the community, and are proud to call San Marcos “home.” We apologize if the billboard featuring Colt McCoy was offensive to Bobcat fans. The billboard ad will be pulled today in an effort to show our respect to this community we love so much.

Like someone said, this situation isn't about UT--this is about Texas State. Excellent point. As "small" of a victory as this may seem, this university and community has come a LONG way with regard to school pride. This crap may have gone by without a complaint as recently as the very early 2000s. Well, we're no SWT, UT-wannabe anymore. Can't say how proud of our students, alumni, and community for standing up for our great school.

I am shocked and really proud of you guys. GSU is in a smilar situation having 30,000 students in Downtown Atlanta and being 15 or 20 city blocks from Georgia Tech in Midtown and an hour (65 miles) form U of Georgia in Athens. So I get the whole overshadowed by the big boys thing. These little battles are for respect, not only on the field or court , but also in the state legislature when people start doling out millions for science buildings. We had our own local "I never thought this wuld ever happen." moment yesterday here in Atlanta, so I totally get where youre coming from.
