Ahmadinejad hates cephalopods

I thought this might be an Onion story at first.....apparently Paul, the world cup octopus is now on Iran's radar.

Ahmadinejad called the clever cephalopod an agent of "western propaganda and superstition," and described him as a symbol of all that is wrong with the western world, reported London's Daily Telegraph.

"Those who believe in this type of thing cannot be the leaders of the global nations that aspire, like Iran, to human perfection, basing themselves in the love of all sacred values," he said.

Ahmadinejad did not comment on the suitability for global leadership of those who believe an octopus is capable of spreading "western propaganda.”

Haha that awesome. While I doubt most people would believe Paul the Octopus had supernatural powers, it was interesting to see if he kept getting the picks right or not. Now to be called out by a leader of a country shows that Paul has made it to the big time

TEHRAN, Iran — Cigarettes smuggled into Iran have been tainted with pig blood and nuclear material as part of a Western conspiracy, an Iran official claimed Friday.

The semiofficial Mehr news agency quoted Mohammad Reza Madani from the Society for Fighting Smoking as saying contraband Marlboros have been contaminated with pig hemoglobin and unspecified nuclear material.

Madani claimed Philip Morris International, which sells Marlboro outside the U.S., is "led by Zionists" and deliberately exports tainted cigarettes. Pig products are considered unclean under Muslim law.

He provided no evidence or information about the confiscated cigarettes. Friday's report also gave no details on how the alleged contamination was discovered.

Tehran, which often alleges Western conspiracies, says 20 billion cigarettes are smuggled into Iran every year.
