Nothing ever surprises me about the CAA, but I must say Maine going 3-8 (1-7) would do so. They look pretty good this year.

UNH will probably have a couple more losses than they did last year, simply by virtue of the Hofstra and Northeastern departures and having Pitt instead of Ball State as their FBS game. They have a very good program, as do many in the CAA, but I think the screws have definitely tightened from a scheduling standpoint for them.

So if Towson goes 2-9/1-7, which non-conference game do they lose? Columbia or Coastal? As sh!tty the team was last year, they still beat Coastal. I'm not expecting much this year, but I wouldn't think another two win season is in our future. I'm going to say 4-7. Columbia, Coastal, URI and we sneak up on someone looking past us. We're still really young, but the depth is showing.

With 16 returning starters, and another year under the belt for Ambrose, I think Towson will be improved this year. 4 wins for Towson this year coming against CCU, Columbia, URI & (the surprise you mentioned) UMass.

We have UMass at home. Please, please, please, please...I won't hold my breath though.

I agree with ChickenMan, UD could be a bit too high and UMaine a bit too low, but dammit, worst of all is no Hofstra! This fall is going to suck!

Those are 4, what I consider, winnable games for you guys.

Take a look at the UMass schedule. Difficult start, that I think actually positions Towson nicely. W&M, Holy Cross, Michigan, Stony Brook, Towson, Bye week, Nitty Gritty CAA run. I think your Tigers could be 'laying in the weeds' to attack at Unitas when the Minutemen's bus rolls into town.

16 returning starters that went 2-9 last year. Sorry, I don't always buy the 'returning starters' argument for any school...sometimes it might be better to let the losers go and bring in the fresh meat.

Sorry Andrea, I'm not specifically picking on Tofson.... or am I?

16 mostly true and RS freshman and RS sophomores in 09, to be fair.
The losers were let go last year, that's why we were so young and had thin depth issues.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in '11 when we play ODU. Essentially, both school are in the same phase of complete rebuilding, only with opposite levels of competition. Will the soft scheduling be an advantage or disadvantage for ODU? Or will Ambrose's baptism of fire prove to be advantageous?

I'm excited about this season and seeing how we have improved. :thumb: They report to camp today.

I hope you're right, I'm actually looking forward to a competitive Towson ( :o sp?) team on the field. But no matter the team, I don't always buy that returning starters with more experience (at what? losing?) is always a good thing.

Columbia was 4-6 last year
Towson beat CCU and URI last year.
UMass returns even fewer starters than Towson from their own pretty mediocre squad, and I think will be either looking ahead or behind Towson.

I predicted that they'll be overlooking Towson. What's 50/50 about that?

It all has to do with gaining experience. My RS sophomore year, our starting o-line was 2 jrs, me and two other sophs. We went 1-10. That sucked. The next year, same line, 5-5. My senior year the two seniors were replaced with juniors. We went 8-2 with a 2000yd RB and gave up 4 sacks.

I understand what you are saying about losing affecting the players. Letting the loser mentality sink into the team is what got Gordy Combs fired. Ambrose spend last year getting those losers to quit the team. Ambrose was a year ahead of me on our teams, so I trust he won't let that losing thinking take hold.

Also the last time we beat you.

Best part of that game was kneeling on it three times on your 5 yard line after driving down the entire field.

Well, Delaware should have a very good year, but I'm not predicting 10-1 and a CAA title. Would be nice, but highly unlikely. I'll take a playoff berth and a nice long run into late December/early January though!

Think Richmond and UMass are too high and JMU and Maine are too low.

Good thoughts guys. I think Maine and Towson both are good for a few "surprise" wins, but it's just hard to pick which ones those might be.

The thing is, Towson pretty much sucked last year (sorry andy) - Maine was at least pretty decent. Not sure why you have Maine taking such a step backwards - it wasn't like they played Hofstra and Northeastern 3 times each last year.
