Re: Liberty Stadium Expansion Plans
I finally got to see the stadium today for the first time since June 1. Pictures don't do this thing justice. It's absolutely huge.
Yes, she did say that.

Re: Liberty Stadium Expansion Plans
I wish i was living in Lynchburg again this summer so I could see the progress of this. I cant wait until I take my youth group to CFAW, but that probably wont be until next fall. (should be noted, though I hate CFAW, it gives me an excuse to take a free trip to a LU football game haha)

Tried to do the exact same thing this fall but we've got events during both CFAW weekends so it got shot down.rueful wrote: (should be noted, though I hate CFAW, it gives me an excuse to take a free trip to a LU football game haha)

From LU's beat writer who got a tour of the stadium yesterday http://www.mynewsadvance.com/index.php/ ... press_box/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The sucker is huge, and it completely changes Williams Stadium. The place, for lack of a better term, will look big-time. Once the stadium is complete, it will be right up there with James Madison, Elon and Montana—to name a few—in terms of stadium amenities and aesthetic beauty.

The necessary construction will not be done on time so the game has been moved to Lynchburg's City Stadium.

Fields nice... at least they kept in really really good condition when I played on it, and who knows if one of the high school teams will tear up the field the night before. Stadium sucks, I think the bleachers are further away from the field than JMU's student sections... Plus, it has a gravel track around it.
LU should be able to fill that thing easy, it only fits 10k. I assume they are going to try to sell above capacity?

High school, but not foozeball, went to the high school that excelled at 'country club' sports and actually didn't care about football until college.rogers3 wrote: High school or did you play for JMU?

Glass, our tennis and golf teams were sick nasty.01lugrad wrote:Jefferson Forest?
Especially our tennis team, I think they were #1 or 2 in the nation at one point (could be wrong about that, but I know they were definitely top 10). Our football team not so much. I think the QB broke the state record for INTs. One kid on the team plays in the NFL though.

There was a time... a long time ago... that Glass had quite the football team. It was before my time.JMU DJ wrote:High school, but not foozeball, went to the high school that excelled at 'country club' sports and actually didn't care about football until college.rogers3 wrote: High school or did you play for JMU?
Regarding JMU, I do remember an Liberty Baptist College-James Madison barn-burner back in the early '80s. I think the Liberty was still D2 and JMU was in their early years of D1. JMU won 53-42.

Wow- what a sense of humor!
Re: Liberty Stadium Expansion Plans
When I was in HS, one of my best friends went to EC Glass. He was really good friends with Ruben Brown (1st round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills and 4-time All Pro). On more than a half dozen occasions, Ruben wiped out the food in my house. That boy could eat. I wonder what he is doing these days. I remember that EC Glass was a very good team. According to Wikipedia, they are 61st nationally in W/L percentage.

Heritage plays Martinsville the night before...if the weather is damp for that one tearing up the field may be an issue but if its nice the field should be in great shape

This thread is about Liberty's stadium. No one is pushing any "religious" agenda here. I'm not sure why Chrisitanity is the only religion that is okay to bash on here, but maybe you can take out your frustration somewhere else.

Yeah, they were good when my oldest brother and sister went there... back when they went to the State Finals and got beat by Allen Iverson. They had fallen off a few steps by the time I'd gotten there.
Yeah, I haven't kept up with them much since I left, but I know they used to be really good. My mother is really good friends with Ruben's grandmother, I actually have his autographed rookie card somewhere around here. I think he's somewhere in Buffalo still. I went to high school with another kid drafted by the Bills, I think more people would remember him for his chop block against BC than as a Pro, though he was pretty decent in the NFL. He retired after last season.SumItUp wrote:When I was in HS, one of my best friends went to EC Glass. EDIT... make that Keith Hamilton's grandmother that my mom is good friends with. My brother went to high school with Ruben.

While not Jewish, nor a supporter of Liberty University, the comments made here are reprehensible.
LU has grown from a very small private college in the 70's to an up and coming university that has invested heavily in both academic and athletic programs. I respect what they have accomplished in a relatively short period of time.
To make ethnic or religious insults as a stereotypical statement of one's worth is ignorant and reflects poorly on the institution of the individual making these statements. I'd expect better from someone from an institution that I also hold in high regard.
Take your cancerous Aryan hate speech bullshit elsewhere. If you disagree with the founder's philosphies, that is your choice. To make blanket statements about the students and alumni is another. Your comments are inappropriate and classless, and I would be complicit if I did not call you out on it.
Remind me to ensure my children look away from you in disgust if we ever pass on a street.
