Franken Apologizes, This Ain't Saturday Night Live

Post by Gil Dobie »

Great line from McConnell and kudo's to Franken for apologizing.

KARE 11 Link
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. Al Franken has apologized for being rude to Sen. Mitch McConnell as the Senate's top Republican was winding up a solemn debate on the nomination of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.

Franken was presiding over the Senate as McConnell explained his opposition to the nominee. A Senate GOP aide said Franken made theatrical gestures and whispered under his breath as McConnell spoke. It was distracting enough that McConnell went up to the former comedian afterward and said, "This isn't 'Saturday Night Live', Al."

The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Franken later went to McConnell's office to try to apologize. McConnell wasn't there, so Franken delivered a handwritten apology.

It's got to be challenging for anyone to have to listen to Mitch McConnell and not laugh or crack a joke. :thumb:

Franken is living proof that the majority of Minnesotans are retarded.

kalm, you confuse "substantive" with length and obfuscation, like you're accustomed to. My brilliance is brevity. :kisswink:

On a related note which I cannot really elaborate on, Sen. Franken inceased his standing in my eyes recently on congressional delegation to a certain SE Asian city a few weeks ago by actually not wasting taxpayers' money and treating the trip as a personal vacation.

I give him thumbs up for actually acting like a public servant and not a patrician a$$, which is the norm for most pols.

So, out of curiosity, what is your opinion on Michelle Obama's most recent $1/2 million-ish vacation?

I always thought Franken was a great comedy writer, especially when he wrote for SNL. I haven't followed his political career very closely, but from a distance he seems to be okay.

All I know is that GWB's trips to the ranch that he took a beating over cost a lot less money. Laura generally went with him.
