One question, maybe one of you know how to answer this.

Do common law spouses get benefits?

Married couples get shared benefits, and of course single people can't share their benefits with girlfriends and boyfriends or fiancees etc, but some states recognize couples who live together for a period of time as common law couples. Or do they still do that? Just wondering. 8-)

Common law marriages are recongized as legal marriages for Federal benefits, including tax benefits, but only those common law marriages between a man and a woman.

You want less government and freedom to live but you also want to Government to be able to tell two adult people what to do. If two fags want to get married more power to them as longs a Religious order has a right to tell them no. No problem with that - churches already can refuse straight couples from being married, no change needed on that account.

That's what I was afraid off. As long as they can go to the Justice of the Peace. No church should marry a gay couple if they dont want to. Then I'm fine with them getting married. Ill bring a a box of wine and watch a bunch of gay men dance.............lol

Bullshit. I bet 90%+ of people that call themselves Republicans can't tell you one plank in the Republican platform. Same goes for Democrats and the Democrat platform.

Look at the different districts in Kalifornia. Observe the percentages that voted for Obama and the percentages that voted for Prop 8. Do the math. There are plenty of homophobic leftists out there.

This is such an interesting topic. You have the one side that says that the Governmnet has no business saying who can and can't get married saying that marriage is between a man and a woman(religious values which shape secular policy) but then you have the group that says that the Government should not give Homosexuals the same rights and Heterosexuals. I think that the USA and the states need to either let everyone marry or get out of "licensing" these marriages. Besides, these homosexuals have it made. Think about it. If you're a Gay man, and you date someone that is the same size as you then...BAM!...your wardrobe just doubled. And, an added bonus is that two gay men don't have to listen to women talk..and talk...and talk.. "Am I too fat?", "Will you love me if i were blind?" What? I'm shallow, of course I wouldn't love you if you were blind. Then they're all like, "you're an asshole" and then i'm like, "well you're a selfish cunt that blows guys in the parking lot of Popeye's Chicken! That's right! I know..I KNOW BITCH!". But i'm sure there are benefits for lesbians. They don't have to worry about a man and his ability to reason and argue emotionless. Those two lesbians would ALWAYS be satisfied b/c they both know the secret location to the G spot that I heard all girls find when they are in the 6th grade, sometime between Physical Education and Biology.

On the flip side, I think all these Heterosexual legislators probably hate that the quuers have a found a loophole to avoid the misery that God gave us in the Garden of Eden. They hate the loophole and are embarassed that they didn't think of it first.

That's my :twocents:

Give me safe roads, bridges, dams, secure the borders, get rid of entitlement programs, balance the budget and get the fuck out of peoples' personal lives. I agree. In most respects, this should be the biggest non-issue ever, and it probably will be in another decade or so.

Gov't should get out of the marriage business as long as the religious right gets out of the civil liberties business. :thumb:
