We pissed that goddamned game away, and I'm freaking angry about it. And I'm not going to forget it. I cried so much when I went to sleep last night. I'm sick of being let down. Something needs to change.

Congrats to the Spiders on the win.

UNI managed to piss it down their leg. I knew the missed FG would come back to bite us on the ass. Also not sure about the last play call. We had time to try and lob it down to FG range and we had one T.O. left. Still can't complain though. Pretty good year for the Panthers since this was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

Questions for those of you that watched it on TV. Did anybody think the refs were overly generous with their spots? It seemed like both teams gained an extra yard on every play. I overheard several people around me saying the same thing I was thinking. What did it look like when they did the instant replay on the ball spot when the Spiders were stopped for the 1st down? I think if they had overturned the spot on an instant replay there probably would've been a riot in the UNI Dome.

The students and Waterloo/Cedar Falls area piss me off. We were 4,000 short of sell out. This game was for the chance to play for the national championship and we can't even sell out the f'n dome!

Fiver, watching on TV it did appear that the Refs were very generous with their spots. The spot on the 4th down play looked pretty good though. The TV angle was bad so you couldn't be sure but the spot looked good and there definitely wasn't enough to overturn it. I thought the Big Sky refs did a really good job. If I remember correctly, there were only about 4 penalties so they let the teams play.

On the game as a whole, the Panthers definitely seemed to pucker up and get conservative when they got into the red zone and at the end of the game. I wish they would have ran a play-action to try and at least get a first down. If they were just going to pound it up the middle, what about a QB draw to take a few more seconds off of the clock? While I'm disappointed in some of the playcalling I'm not going to question it too much for a number of reasons. One, Farley and his staff have always been conservative and they've done pretty well with that approach. Two, Richmond's defense is tough and likes to create turnovers as well so putting the ball in the air was risky. Three, while UNI's defense wasn't shutting Richmond down they had been successful in stopping them before they got across the goal line so depending on them to make one more stop wasn't a bad bet (although I wouldn't have used a prevent defense). And Four, Farley and his staff have forgotten more about football than I've ever known.

Those UNI fans who think this is a bad result and that changes need to be made might want to step back and reflect for a little while. The majority of the programs in FCS would gladly take UNI's success over the course of Farley's tenure. UNI has made the playoffs in 3 of the last 4 years and is 6-3 in that time. That's pretty darn good and sure beats the Dunbar years and the Bruce fiasco. They might not have won the big trophy but they'll get it eventually and when they do it is going to be sweet.

Congrats to Richmond for hanging around and doing what it took to win. The Spiders played hard and earned the win.

Things don't always get better just because a change is made. Want proof, look at UNI in 1987 and 1988. In 1987, UNI lost in the semfinals on the road in overtime to the eventual national champion (NE Louisiana now Louisiana Monroe). This following a loss in the 1985 semifinals to Georgia Southern by 7 (scored with less than 2 minutes left on the clock) in the Dome. After the 1987 season, Coach Mudra "retires" and UNI hires Earl Bruce fresh out of Ohio St. I can't remember how many starters returned in 1988 but I believe it was quite a few. Bruce takes an extremely talented team with an explosive offense and turns them into 3 yards and a cloud of turf. I believe teams would even pull their DBs if UNI got into the red zone because they knew Bruce was going to run the ball regardless. UNI finished 5-6.

Farley doesn't quit. He'll keep learning from his mistakes and his teams will keep getting better. An NC is just a matter of time.

A quick summary of the game ...

Richmond stacked the box and was able to stuff C Lewis. UNI got a conservative and muffed the game allowing Richmond to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Farley clammed up in the press conference. He must have been pissed, I don't think those guys will be getting any pie for quite a while. Why couldn't we have played the Beavers instead of the Spiders?

Funny story: I was in multiple texting conversations throughout the Griz game....one was with my sister and soon to be brother in law, and it went something like this:

Dave: Griz need to stack the LOS (line of scrimmage) huh? Make them hurt us through the air.
Tom: Yep...need to stack the box. Only way to stop these fuckers.
Pat (sister): 8 in the box?
Tom: Listen to you, throwin' out the football lingo. And anytime you can get 8 in the box, you should be thrilled!
Pat: Dave's teaching me all about football! Turns out, I'm quite a fan of 8 in the box!

Who knew my 53 year old sister had such a sense of humor!
