By that argument, then Cole Bergquist isn't as good at QB as AE. He has less yards passing than AE with less TDs passing, and has played more games. By your argument, Wildcat Ryan would be right in suggesting that Higgins should win. However, you're also looking purely at stats. I don't believe the award is given based on stats alone. The subjective part of the voting is something we could argue about all day long.

But my point is, you can be a great QB without passing for 4000+ yards. If you can be in charge of the game, give your team the best chance to win, and have the talent to get in done in many ways, then those are still marks of a great QB. The QB is who starts each play. His talents, leadership, and decision making ability are what sets him apart from the other positions. Whether or not he throws for a ton of yards is secondary.

where at in my entire arguement did i say that Cole should be the winner. I never said that, in fact i said exactly the opposite. He is a good QB, but not the best. Maybe if you would read a little closer and back up your answers you would get a little more done with your argument.

Yes the QB needs to be very flexible. But name one QB that has ever done anything with his running ability in the PRO's... Vicks in prison making 40 cents an hour, Vince Young's Hurt off and on. Most of the QB's in the Pro's are a passing first player. They have many games where they pass a ton. In fact i believe the last few QB's to win the Super Bowl have been Proficient passers.

You never said that Cole should be the winner. However you did say that Armanti was a rb and because his running stats weren't as good as Herb, Herb should automatically win. My counterpoint was that your argument means AE is a better QB than Cole because he has more passing yards.

And we are not talking about professional awards or titles here - just the Payton. College FB is a different animal from the pros.

WTF do the pro's and super bowls have to do with the Payton award? It isn't awarded to the player with the best pro prospects or it would be given to an offensive or defensive lineman most years....please, try to keep up....

Thats correct... Cole isn't as good a QB, over the entire season, but when it mattered the most Cole stepped up, unlike your GOD Armanti. He may not have the best stats, and i'm not saying he's the best QB, but at this point in time i think plenty of people would say from his performance against JMU, he is the best performing QB right now. We will see what happens against Richmond and their pass happy defense. And i was useing the pro's as a f*#!@ example you idiot. Saying that the Great QB's that are in the league are the ones that pass very well, not the ones that run. Had nothing to do with the Award at that point... i was argueing my case of who the best QB is.

But your argument is slighted towards a pass-oriented offense when the past three NC's and the most consistent winning teams the past few years have been directed by run-oriented QB's. Historically, your argument holds water, but in recent years with the current state of FCS football, an effective passing QB isn't the end-all, be-all....ask Ricky Santos, Ryan Perilloux, Rhett Boamr, et al.......depends on what you want from your QB...wins or passing yards....
