If you're going to make a trip out of it and stay in the area a couple days before or after the game... I'd look into renting a cabin or a B&B. Don't have any recommendations... but, if you choose to go that route I bet some people on here would have some places in mind.
If you want a hotel in town... I'd recommend the Sleep Inn or Country Inn and Suites... both are on the main drag (King Street) and walking distance to plenty of bars and the football game.

So, where's the best place to score some smack? D1B and I will be on the prowl for it.

I think I will take my travel advice from someone that is not a wet towel. Thanks anyways.

I'll be there. 9/1/2012 is my younger son's 17th birthday. On his 12th, we beat Michigan - and yes, we were there. So, we are looking for another fun game on his birthday.
I was at the Montana game last year. I only hope all Montana fans have as much fun in Boone next year, as I did in Montana last year. It is difficult to buy your own beer in Missoula dressed in App. State colors on the night before a game. I intend to return the favor to every single Montana fan I meet in Boone at a bar, restaurant, or at my tailgate next year. I could use some help from other App fans, but I don't think that will be a problem. I'll do it myself, if I have to.
And, I hope that those Montana fans are able to experience the same as I did last year out there: a great game in a great stadium, friendly partisan fans (before AND after the game), good tailgating, good beer, great winter weather (somewhat less likely in Sept., but possible), and ultimately a LOSS!
I hope all the Montana fans who make the trip have a good time, except on gameday. Boone is a great place to be and The Rock is one of the best game day experiences you'll find. Should be another great game between the two.

the hillbilly variety is easily found from any toothless person driving a beat up truck or camaro. other than that, you should fly into charlotte and get your tailgating supplies there before making the trip up the mountain.

Depends on how many people are coming. If it's just you and the wife, a motel in Boone or Blowing Rock will probably be best. There are several options, but they will sell out long before the season. If there is a big enough group, and you plan on being in the area for a few days, I'd look into renting a cabin.

Good post and welcome over to this site! We need to make the experience a memorable one for the Montana fans. From everything I've heard, they have set the bar pretty high.

I was about to suggest the same - I've stayed in several of these and haven't been disappointed yet. They're about 8 miles out of Boone, but an easy drive.

Good to see ya JL. Also great to see ya had a good time in Missoula and hopefully it changed your opinion of Montana as a program. Can't wait to see all you guys down in Boone cuz we had a lot of fun with the App guys here in Missoula that we partied with and the ones that came to our tailgate.

I bought a number of beers for ASU fans at the Mo Club Friday night before the game; maybe you were one of them. Hope the favor gets returned as we will be in Boone - to keep our perfect record vs. ASU in tact. How great would it be if the game were a rematch of th 2011 NC game...

Same here. But, my trip to Missoula did not change my opinion of UM, as I already held them in high esteem. Not quite sure I understand your post there. My 2 sons & I had an absolute BLAST in Montana, with the exception of the outcome of the game, of course. It really does not get much better than that experience. And, I hope all Montana fans who make it out to Boone for the UM/ASU game can make the same statement to their friends or on message boards when they return home. THAT is what college football is all about.

I think we were at the Iron City Grill for dinner Friday night - nice place, on a corner near campus. Do I recall the name correctly? Ditto on the 2011 NC game. What's the weather in Dallas like in January? Maybe it will snow.

Might have been the Iron Horse.
And not really on the corner near campus either... But their food isn't half bad.

Oh I was refering to some of the stuff said about Montana a few (or coupe) of years ago on AGS when there was some back and forth over it between you and I. Just a few posts but I got the distinct impression that you weren't a fan. Could have just been some banter for the thread as is done here quite often.
Gonna be fun having a little series and going to Boone to meet up with an old friend or two and meet some new ones when we get there and get the party rolling. Look forward to meeting you in 2012 unless we get an earlier opportunity.
