I found the quotes where the critic accuses Barton of misunderstanding the founder's intent or using the quote out of context, but I could not find unconfirmed quotes. Notably, the critic makes the same mistakes of which Barton is accused by making a counter-accusation without providing context or crafting a plausible alternative interretation.

Look, I understand the criticism of Barton, but based on what I have heard with my own ears and seen with my own eyes of Barton's writings and his critics, I do not understand the accusations that he is out to create a theocracy. I am not a Barton expert, but he makes some factual claims and some legitimate points.
I consider his misinterpretations with the Atkinson Bible as pushing theocracy but that is just me
Not familiar with the Atkinson Bible or Barton's claims about it - I'll have to take a look.

If Jefferson were alive today, he'd be appalled at the religious right and that Beck character. His **** 200 years ago is much different than our ****, now. He'd be four-square in D1B's corner and positively aghast at the condition of church and state these days and how Conks have prostituted religion for their own gain.

Allow me, too, after that statement to make a pitch for the flexible Constitution, while we're talking about the changing times!
Since Jefferson was a very religious man, I seriously doubt your opinion's validity.

The Constitution is as flexible as it needs to be. You know there is an amendment process. If the founders truly wanted the Constitution to be as flexible as the booger eating bed wetters want, the founders would have made the amendment process much easier.

It's fair observation of me, skelly. Although I agree that Beck can be overly damatic and sometimes wrong, I do not disparage him like everyone else here. The hysterical fear of Beck and his ideas is amusing.

Let me say this FOR Beck:
1. Beck asks intelligent questions.
2. Beck is entertaining and openly admits to being an entertainer.
3. Beck calls Obama out on legitimate issues.
4. In addition to the fringe guests, which EVERY talk show host invites, Beck also invites more intelligent and acomplished guests than the other hosts, who tend to invite talking heads like themselves.
5. The hysterical, irrational, petty, hearsay and personal attacks on Beck far outnumber the objective, dispassionate, rational and factual criticisms of his ideas.
6. Many of Beck's criticisms of mainstream academia are quite legitimate and mirror many of the same criticisms to be found among a variety of posters on these pages.
7. Many of Beck's criticisms of Progressives and Liberals are quite legitimate and mirror many of the same criticisms to be found among a variety of posters left, right and center on these pages, including YT's criticisms of Progressives and Liberals.

Sure, I take both Beck, Palin, YT and Z seriously, but I also take Joe Biden, Chris Matthews, skelly and kalm seriously. That does not mean I agree with everything they say or that I would vote for ANY of them. (...Excxept you, Z. I would vote for you.)
I would vote for Z too, if only because I have a soft spot in my heart for cynical, grumpy, curmudgeonly, conks. :D

And why in the fuck would you ever take me seriously?

I didn't say fundamental right to vote... I said constitutional right to vote.

The Constitution has 5 instances detailing the "right to vote" or "right of citizens of the United States to vote"......
But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice-President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

Ironic. Beck has been supposedly in the mainstream media, yet admits to being an entertainer.

Jon Stewart is not mainstream, is in fact a comedian entertainer, and yet pretends to be mainstream and is taken seriously as such.

I don't care much for either of these guys, but at least Beck is intellectually honest.

Doesn't matter, you're wrong either way.

The Constitution, the Supreme Court (Minor v. Happersett & Bush v. Gore), and every single legitimate Constitutional expert agrees with me in that states set the requirements for voting. Sorry, but your "5 instances" (there are actually 6) only prevents the states from enacting voting laws that restrict voters based on race, gender, creed, etc.

Epic, massive, and FUNDAMENTAL FAIL on your part, AGAIN.

Ugh, maybe we should continue this is the original thread so we don't hijack this one. But, I agree with you that voting is left up to the states... I never said anything to the contrary.

Just because a right can be limited... doesn't mean it's not a right. Every single one of our rights is limited. You can't yell "fire" is a crowded theater... even though you have a right to free speech. You can't purchase a handgun if you a felon. You can lose your right to vote according to the laws of your state... if you're a felon, if you've committed voter fraud, etc.

"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."
