Conks are quick to jump on the anti-Obama and anti-Donk bandwagons, but ignore the implosion of their own major party. Any Conk here care to characterize for us the current and future states of the RepubliConk party?
Looks pretty dim to the rest of us. Fracturing, splintering, in-fighting, assholes like Beck and Palin rising in popularity, the continuing Nazi drone of Limbaugh, racism, America Uber alles - all stealing votes from your true leaders.
Let's hear you defend this sinking ship.......WTF does your party offer the future other than hate and exclusion and abuse of the middle class and minorities?
It's fvcking embarrassing to watch the news anymore when it's about Conks......
I'd place myself somewhere in the middle, but I think the answer to your question is that the Republicans provide a "balance" to the "check" of the Dems. Please tell me you don't think it's a good idea for a single party system.
I'd agree that the Republicans are visibly fracturing, possibly getting rid of some of the neo-Con mantle they've developed over the past couple of decades. That being said, the Dems have been largely ineffective with a supermajority for a couple of years and are facing a potential rout in November. It's bad when a terribly disorganized republican party looks like the better option to a lot of voters.
I don't think it's as dire as you make it out to seem. I think the Republicans have always, at least for the past 20-30 years, had to deal with the arch-conservative wing of their party. Much like the Dems are saddled with the ultra-liberal part of their party (which they are infighting with at the same time the GOP is dealing with their own infighting - heck, even the Press Secretary took pot shots at his own party's radical wing, in the WH Press Room to boot).
I think what you're seeing now, though, is the rising concern from the electorate about fiscal responsibility - independents started worrying about it under Bush and the GOP Congress (hence why the GOP was so badly beaten in '06 in terms of Congress and '08 in terms of the executive) and now it's gained further steam after 4 years of a Dem Congress and just two years of a Dem President.
I think people like Palin and Beck get the press now because they are, especially the latter, bombastic. It makes for great headlines and stories. But to dismiss this as simply a problem with the GOP is short sighted - more and more people identify themselves as Independent these days than ever before, and people who are truly adherents to one particular party are getting lesser and lesser (and frankly, the ones who do stay with one party tend to be the more radical for each). Independent voters seem to be the ones swaying elections these days, especially when it comes to fiscal policies (i.e. spending) - they punished the GOP rightfully for their prolifigate ways in '06 and '08, and they seem poised to do the same to the Dems here in '10. When neither party seems to have the answers, we're going to keep swinging from one to the other until one of them comes up with the answers.

I understand years of consuming certain products have made your gray matter pretty mushy...so I'll remind you of certain key facts...
I'm a conservative, not a republican...I have bashed the republicans many time on this and other boards...I opposed the Iraq war, hate Bush for the Patriot Act, and held my nose when I voted for McCain because I would have gagged if I voted for Obama...the current republican party no more represents true conservatives than today's democrat party represents the JFK Democrat my father still is at age 82...he's a retired union worker who hates where unions and the democrats have taken this country...
The fact you like to simply lump people who disagree with you into nice, tight little packages shows your limited range of understanding...
I could care less what happens to the republican party...I just want AnyonebutObama to win the next Presidential election...
Nice try, Lumpy...

I find it interesting that a conservative party that realizes the need to reinvent itself is a party "in shambles", but a donk party that OBVIOUSLY needs to reinvent itself (given what's transpiring in election booths across the country) is a "tempest in a teapot".
Get your head out of your ass and realize that AMERICA is tired of this shit. From both sides. Conservatives NEEDED an upheaval...and 2008 provided just the impetus. As the good Colonel said, lumping people into such nice little boxes may work in the fantasy world you live in, but not in the real world that us adults occupy.

How in the fvck, Oh Great Wizard, did you know in 2008 anything about what things would be like in 2010?
It's clearly the black thing! That was the impetus!!!
And, you still haven't painted a good Conk picture yet. Concentrate, don't dodge. You make JoltinJoe look like a MENSA member. Take your ADHD meds already, will ya????

Jesus. And think that it's ME who needs meds. 2008's results DROVE 2010's actions. Try to keep up, myron.
And yeah, it's the black thing. That's why I was BEGGING Colin Powell to run. Begging JC Watts to run.
Wait...it's the old conservative white guy thing. That's why I was BEGGING McCain to pick Lieberman as his running mate.

Sorry Chief, but do you have any idea how many Donks are running anti-Pelosi, anti-Reid, and anti-Obama ads? Donks are kryptonite right now, and you are going to see a political tsunami on election day that hasn't been seen in our nation's history.

Yep. The dems are the stable party that can't sem to get shit done even with a super-majority outside of "universal" healthcare (without the public option, mind you....you know, the part of universal healthcare that was actually going to benefit a majority of the dem supporters that aren't pharma lobbyists). You wanted change? You're about to get it in 2 mos.....hell, you guys couldn't even keep kennedy's senator seat in Mass...

Republicans were predicting the imminent demise of the Donkicrap party after 2004. Truthfully, neither party is going anywhere for a long time and that in and of itself is a bad thing...we need more parties that have real voices and power in American politics as both sides seem to have swung to the extreme right or left.
