EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
Mackay Stadium (29,993, FieldTurf ) • Reno, Nevada
Series History: Nevada leads 7-1
Last Game: Nevada won 51-14 in Cheney in 1991.
Live Webcast: ($4.95) www.nevadawolfpack.com
Online Radio: (free) www.espnnorthwest.com/

Nevada Forums: http://www.silverandbluesports.com
Game Notes:
Nevada was 8-5 overall and 7-1 in the WAC last season, having lost its first three games and its last two. The Wolf Pack ended the season with a 45-10 loss to SMU (current Eagle Bo Levi Mitchell was a member of that SMU team) in the Hawaii Bowl. The Wolf Pack featured an offense that led the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision with an average of 344.9 yards rushing per game and had three 1,000-yard rushers. The Wolf Pack was second in total offense (505.6) and sixth in scoring (38.2).
The team’s top two rushers were underclassmen (Vai Taua/1345 yards/10 touchdowns and Colin Kaepernick/1,183 yards/16 touchdowns), with Kaepernick also passing for 2,052 yards and 20 touchdowns while accounting for 36 total TDs.
“They run the ball as well as anybody in the country, so they are extremely scary to us from a defensive standpoint,” said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin. “That is going to be No. 1. You say you want to stop the run against every team you play, but these guys are as hard to stop as anyone. And their front seven on defense is a strength of theirs -- it really makes them go and will be a real challenge for our team.”
The Eagles finished the 2009 season with an 8-4 record and advanced to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs for the fourth time in the last six seasons. Eastern expects to return 10 starters from that team -- including five on offense and five on defense, plus a pair of returning players who started nearly half of the season as injury replacement

I'd expect Beau to let Bo air out plenty, as the Pack are young and inexperienced at S.

http://www.rgj.com/section/blogs16?plck ... fe.rgj.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Nevada kicker Ricky Drake has been suspended for the first two games of the season and had part of his scholarship taken away following a DUI arrest, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
Drake was arrested Friday on suspicion of DUI and careless driving after police spotted him behind the wheel of a car while appearing intoxicated, according to the newspaper.
Coach Chris Ault suspended him for the games against Eastern Washington and Colorado State, took 50 percent of his scholarship and put him on probation for the rest of the season.
In 2009, Drake made 6-of-9 field goals and 60-of-64 extra points. The Wolf Pack have kickers Nick Rhodes and Anthony Martinez on the roster, but neither has attempted a kick for the team.
Nevada safety Duke Williams has been suspended for the Wolf Pack's season opener against Eastern Washington for his role in an altercation with teammate Marlon Johnson in April, coach Chris Ault said after the team's scrimmage Tuesday. Williams also lost his financial aid over the summer as an additional penalty.
"Duke's paying a dear price for it," Ault said. "He’s suspended one game and lost his financial aid for the summer. It’s a big penalty."
This will be the third game Williams has missed in his brief time at Nevada. He was suspended for two games during his true freshman season.
The Hug High product was suspended one game after being cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol in November. He also was with Pack linebacker Andre Davis when Davis was arrested for felony shoplifting in Honolulu during the week of the Hawaii Bowl in late December. Davis was kicked off the team and Williams was suspended for the bowl game.
The suspension leaves the Wolf Pack with four safeties for the season opener: Corbin Louks, a transfer from Utah who is eligible to play for the Pack after redshirting last year; junior-college transfers Dean Faddis and Bubba Boudreaux; and Johnson.
I'd expect Beau to let Bo air out plenty, as the Pack are young and inexperienced at S.

If this rape occurred on your home field nobody would see the blood.

Your team may not win on the Red Turf for quite awhile, it definitely wont be Montana that loses on that "rag".

Hey whatever happened to that EWU student paper writer who HATED the Griz and always wrote up pre-game articles primarily aimed at riling Griz fans up? He usually mentioned trailers and/or trailer parks like 10 times per paragraph too.

No, that's actually a douche bag named Troy Kirby who runs the ticket office. He did work at the paper years and years ago, but he's not the same douche that Silenoz is thinking of. If you miss that pathetic writing, you might be able to get your fill HERE.griz8791 wrote:That guy graduated and is now running their ticket office.Silenoz wrote:Hey whatever happened to that EWU student paper writer who HATED the Griz and always wrote up pre-game articles primarily aimed at riling Griz fans up? Nevada might be the most interesting team in college football.
What it does well, it does well at an all-time level. The problems, however, are worst-in-the-nation bad.
The team is so unbelievable at running the ball that it was No. 1 in the nation by a ten-mile wide margin. With an NCAA record three 1,000-yard rushers leading the way, the Pack ripped off 4,484 yards and 48 touchdowns, averaging a devastating 7.39 yards per carry (UAB was No. averaging 5.96 yards per try), while averaging close to 50 yards per game more than Georgia Tech.
And then there was the pass defense.
UAB (ironically enough) was the only team in America worse against the pass, and only Idaho gave up more touchdown passes. The punt return game was the third worst in America, the passing attack finished 107th, and the red zone defense was 110th in the nation. But for all the problems and all the issues, there’s one area Nevada has to improve more than any other.
Nevada, it’s time to beat someone.
All head coach Chris Ault has done (check that, Hall of Fame head coach Chris Ault) is win 206 games for the program and put together a revolutionary offense that came up with one of the greatest seaso

Eastern Washington (0-0) at Nevada (0-0) Sept. 2, 9:05 pm
Here’s The Deal … When we last saw Nevada, it’s record-setting offense was getting shut down cold in an embarrassing 45-10 Hawaii Bowl loss to SMU. Now the Wolf Pack will be trying to start things up right away on a high note before getting Colorado State, California, and BYU in a span of 14 days. Most of the key parts from the nation’s No. 1 rushing offense are back, but Eastern Washington is a decent Big Sky team with a terrific passing offense and should provide a very scary matchup. This isn’t going to be easy for the Pack.
Why Eastern Washington Might Win: Nevada’s pass defense hasn’t stopped anyone in years. Anyone who could throw the forward pass picked apart the Pac secondary that finished second-to-last in America last year, and it’s going to be a little while before things are appreciably better. EWU finished third in the FCS among passing offenses and was fourth overall, and with former SMU QB Bo Levi Mitchell at the helm, the air show should continue. Consider it a shock of the Eagles don’t come up with at least 300 yards through the air.
Why Nevada Might Win: EWU has a decent run defense, but it’s not going to be special. Linebacker J.C. Sherritt is a special playmaker, but he’s not going to be enough stop a Nevada ground game that should every bit as potent as last year. California ran for 342 yards on the Eagles and the better FCS running teams were able to crank out big yards. If Nevada doesn’t control the game with well over 300 yards on the ground, be shocked.
What To Watch Out For: How sharp will the Nevada ground game be right away? With leading receiver Brandon Wimberly trying to come back from knee problems, and with the receiver depth a bit lacking, it’ll be all ground game, all the time, and the key will be to see how the new parts mix in. QB Colin Kaepernick is the conductor of the show, and Vai Taua is back after finishing eighth in the nation, but Luke Lippincott is gone and Nevada will try out several new options to see who can keep the production rolling.
What Will Happen: EWU’s passing game will provide a whale of a scare, but Nevada will come up with 400 yards on the ground and will pull away late in the third. This will be a fun shootout with a ton of big stats for both sides.
CFN Prediction: Nevada 48 … Eastern Washington 27 … Line: No Line

I think I'll spend the $10.95 anyway. Just add it to the rest my pay per view expenditures.
