Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
That fumble was huge. EWU was driving out of their own endzone, at least getting some field position. Nevada down to the 1.

Mitchell hasn't been hitting any fly or fade routes down the sideline at all. He will need to work on those.

I can only imagine if Nichols was playing this game... open receivers all over, BLM is overthrowing everybody.SDHornet wrote:Mitchell hasn't been hitting any fly or fade routes down the sideline at all. He will need to work on those.

Mitchell throws the desperation 4th down play away. Looks like this one is wrapped up. EWU was in this one until a costly turnover made the difference.

Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
Nevada puts in their 2nd string and are just running it to kill this one. I was impressed with what EWU has shown. If Mitchell can stop over throwing his receivers, it looks like EWU will be a contender.
Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
Indeed. As anyone who pays any attention whatsoever knows, Jones is the real deal, but they're going to need better QB play from BLM in the future, I wasn't impressed with him at SMU and he was definitely underwhelming today. Obviously this is the first game, and against a pretty good WAC team (albeit one that has had a pathetic pass defense the past few years), so it is way too early to be judging his performance.SDHornet wrote:Nevada puts in their 2nd string and are just running it to kill this one. There are much better cover corners in the Sky than what I just saw from Nevada. Guys don't get much more wide open than that.Shellin wrote:Indeed. Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
I agree completely. BLM did not seem like he was on the same page as his receivers, and some of them were *WIDE* open that should have gone for some huge gains. I am hoping that this was just first game nerves, but if we are going to make a serious challenge for the BSC and a play-off run, we will need much better QB play. Taiwan is Taiwan, and I think he's pretty much going to make big plays on just about everyone we play this year, so not much new there.catbob wrote:There are much better cover corners in the Sky than what I just saw from Nevada. Tackling by EWU was horrible, but nothing new there. We really need to wrap up.SDHornet wrote:TD Nevada. That hurts. A EWU defender hit the TE but didn't wrap. Ouch.

PAT good. 35-17 Nevada middle 3rd qtr. Coffman caught it, not Herd.

Yeah, I headed out to the Casino to watch it on the huge projector screen. Nevada fucks wanted $11 to watch the feed online. Ended up +$30 after paying for $30 in booze. Had a good time.Ursus A. That was the ball game right there. Disappointing no doubt, but we put up a valiant fight.SDHornet wrote:EWU fumbles it away. Nevada recovers and they have it on the EWU 20. The receiver tried to make something out of nothing and it cost EWU. Nevada punches it in 3 plays later. 42-24 Nevada. Very costly turnover. 9:17 left.

Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
Spot on. We might've had a chance to win this one if Nichols were still with us. Need BLM to settle down and be more accurate, and on D we need to wrap up. WAY too many missed tackles/hits that didn't drop the ball carrier that extended Nevada drives. Overall though, I'm satisfied with our performance, as long as we improve on those two points. Worried about LB Zach Johnson going down... hope it's not serious. We need him if we want a chance to take 1st or 2nd in the BSC if BLM doesn't step up his play. One thing of note though, he didn't throw any picks. Granted against a better secondary (which there are in the BSC because Nevada's is pretty fucking bad), he likely would've thrown a pick or two tonight.Shellin wrote:Indeed. Taiwan Jones... great statement game to open the season. He'll be a finalist for the Payton.

TJ: 2 receptions, 92 yards, 1 TD. 12 carries, 145 yards. 4 KR for 85 yards. 322 all-purpose.
Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
So where is your contention now that EWU would never miss Nichols because of this hot drop down? EWU defense looks the same as always. Defenses will key on Jones, so you better come up with something else....Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Spot on. We might've had a chance to win this one if Nichols were still with us. Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
I agree, but the thing is, defenses will key in on him, and he still might get those numbers. It's not like he didn't throw up ridiculous numbers last year or that Nevada just didn't know anything about him prior to this game.kemajic wrote:So where is your contention now that EWU would never miss Nichols because of this hot drop down? It was the first game, and as everyone has said, we have some things to work on. It's probably a little early to pass judgment on BLM based on one game. But like I said over on egriz, keep thinking that he's all of our offense. They'll get the communication errors on those routes figured out in time for our tune-up game against CWU........and then, uh-oh.

Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
He won't play too many defenses better than Nevada's the rest of the season (except perhaps the Griz and the Cats), so he may not need more than 12. Besides with him, it's about touches. Who cares whether he gets his yards from runs, screens, or reverses. Staying healthy is just as important.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Perhaps… if he gets more than 12 carries a game.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:TJ: 2 receptions, 92 yards, 1 TD. 12 carries, 145 yards. 4 KR for 85 yards. 322 all-purpose.

Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
He had 18 touches last night....he NEEDS more touches than that if you want to be a contender.

Re: EWU @ Nevada Game Thread
EWU's offense looked better than what I would have expected. The Sky better be ready for the Reds. I figured we beat a much better EWU team last year. I think last year's games will mean nothing and tell us nothing for this season.

I expected a closer game from a #13 ranked EWU vs.an un-ranked FBS opponent.
