Doesn't really surprise me that Albany won, but it's the same old story with Maine every year. They don't seem to figure out until halfway through the season. I still expect Maine to be 6-5/7-4 by season's end, though perhaps not if Turcotte is out for any time.

Maybe they can knock some learnin into Cosgrove with that sledge hammer Maine brings out before the start of the game - do they still do that?

Its nuts now to think Maine could go 7-4. To do that they'd now have to go 6-2 in the CAA (they ain't gonna beat Syracuse). With all due respect to Albany, Maine at 6-2 in the CAA ain't gonna happen, esp with no CAA North, if they can't beat Albany at home. 6-5/5-3 would be a big stretch.

Frankly, with Maine having 16 starters back from last yr's 5-6/4-4 team and talk of them being Maine being a playoff contender, I was shocked when I saw this. Looks like Maine was overrated and Albany was underrated. Last year Maine had to go to OT to beat Div II St Cloud State in their home opener, and lost to Albany on the road. But they managed to finish 4-4 out of the CAA North, (didn't really pull any upsets), 5-6 overall.

This year they no longer get the luxury of the CAA North, and trade Hofstra and Northeastern for Nova and W&M.
With Nova, W&M, UNH, and JMU @ home, I still think Maine will upset one of them, loses at least to UD on the road, and finishes at best exactly as they did last yr: OOC losses to Albany and Cuse, and finish 5-6/4-4.

Will be interesting with the NEC. I know CCSU was the preseason favorite, but maybe Albany will make it what, 3 years in a row as NEC champs? Congrats to Albany on the upset.

I agree. UA was underrated. They go on the road and pitch a shoutout to a CAA team with 30+ more schollys - that's a huge win. While technically Albany "upset" Maine, you have to wonder how the Danes pull off the 2-game serise sweep. Maine hasn't scored a point in 6 straight quarters vs Albany - that is dominant!

Mark my words, Albany will finish no lower than 3rd in the NEC. Sure they can win the AQ this year, but they can't win 3 in a row - CCSU was the outright champ last year :)

Albany could have the best defnse in the league (again), but a FG is not enough offense. I just don't see them as an exposive team. If Albany gets rolling watch out in NEC play, but I think the Dane fans will agree they will be a Defensive team and hope the offense can put up at 17-21 points a game. (for the record, I think CCSU will be in a similar situation in league play)

The last point is a good one - while it's a great win for Albany, the one thing negative to take from it is the inability to score on Maine. Last year even an average UD team with a well below average running game ended up running roughshod over Maine in Orono. Maine's a team that good team can score plenty on. Great job by Albany's defense, but you really should score a lot more than that against Maine.

Quick question for Maine fans - if back to back losses to Albany can't unseat Cosgrove in Maine, is there any way to get rid of him?

Does getting promoted to Athletic Director count? Because that may be in the cards in the Spring.

I'd rather have a hockey guy in there, but anything is better than what it was.

Other than that, no, he's not getting fired.

Albany was moving the ball on Maine. We fumbled once in the red zone...and once right outside. We also had a penalty put us out of range of a FG. Honest to g-d...Albany could have put up 17-20 on Maine. That said, you have to do it for it to count.

The thing to remember also; Albany was installing new wideouts, new QB, and three new running backs (TB's and FB). Lot of players playing their first game for the Danes.

The CAA thanks UMaine for keeping The Cos at the helm. If he keeps up the good work, the UMaine-UA matchup could soon become an annual NEC conference game.

Nice win for the Danes. Orono is always a tough place to play.

DId you watch the game...or did you just show stats. YES...Albany was moving the ball for two significant periods of the first half..and two in the second (Time of Possession).

Yards dont always tell the story. The relative aspect of how we were moving the ball was palpable. Albany had absolutely more scoring opportunities than Maine.

Albany looked like Marino's Miami Dolphins compared to Maine.

And to answer a previous question.........Cosgrove is going nowhere until:

1. He becomes AD.

2. He retires.

3. He dies.
