Don't need to, there are 20 other posters here who now have no problem legitimatley criticizing religion.

Joltin Joke and his new organ grinder monkey - Tbag - love to throw out the Pew stats where 1.6% of the population ID's themselves as atheists, like he's proud or it somehow validateds your absurd beliefs.

The truth is, until very recently, people were afraid to "come out" as an atheist or non-believer or even non-church goer. They were afraid, and still are, of being discriminated against in business or in social life. Bigoted christians are alive and well. Just ask Jon or Travis. :coffee:

It's important to understand when Joe rolls out "The Pew", a valid study and group, he conveniently ignores the most important stat, the headline stat if you will, which is the rapid increase in the number of people "claiming no religious affiliation". People are leaving organized relgion in droves and are either taking care of those needs themselves, because no one needs a church to be close to god, or they're simply atheists or agnostics who aren't ready for the "A" letter.

Andy, you don't need the church to close to god. Take a hard look at your church and how it's run and what they're actually saying in mass and what they're doing to children and what they want to do with your children and what they're telling you about marriage and what the Vatican is doing, its deplorable history, its ongoing efforts to cover up abuse of children and it's genocidale stance on birth control and abortion. Take a hard look and decide if it's worth it.

You don't need the church to be a good christian. Read the bible, Jesus would be appalled at the catholic church.

I have a better chance to go to heaven than 99.9% of catholics and other religious fundamentalists.

Hate is bred in politics to help their party win elections, and spread to the populace to feed on their parties beliefs and make the other party look the worse.

Gil, Cap'n right, look into the Droopy Dog-like snip shots and you're one of the most hateful and divisive people here.

You have to shoulder part of the blame for being hateful, racist (Obama  ) and divisive. You're always bitching too, which is annoying.

The republican party is hateful (teabaggers), racist (teabaggers/Obama) and divisive (all of em). You are a republican, therefore you are hateful, racist and divisive. This is no lie Gil, it's simple logic or at the very least, guilt by association. Has nothing to do with belief, or lack thereof in god.

Either way you have to accept my criticism and concern. :tothehand:

It’s hard to ignore the fact that Jesus chose to be born poor; he worked as what many scholars now say was not simply a carpenter, but what might be called a day laborer; he spent his days and nights with the poor; he and his disciples lived with few if any possessions; he advocated tirelessly for the poor in a time when poverty was widely considered to be a curse; he placed the poor in many of his parables as over and above the rich; and he died an utterly poor man with only a single seamless garment to his name. Jesus lived and died as a poor man. Why is this so hard for modern-day Christians to see? Liberation theology is not Marxism disguised as religion. It is Christianity presented in all its disturbing fullness.

Glenn Beck’s opposition to “social justice” and “liberation theology” is all the more difficult to understand because of his cloaking of himself in the mantle of believer. “Look to God and make your choice,” he said on Sunday.
As far as the article goes, I agree with Liberation Theology very much. However I don't think Jesus favors the poor over the rich. That would mean he loves ONLY the poor. Christ spent most of his time with the poor and sick but he did spend time with the rich as well. He died for EVERYONE. Not just the poor and not just the rich.

You are 100% right on.

How can you love Jesus and be a Bigot?
How can you love Jesus and not want to help the sick and poor?
How can you love Jesus and not want to treat people with compassion?

PLEASE someone answer this??
