Why not? They might be allowing CP as football only…or do you think CP will come on as a full member?rationalgriz wrote:Highly doubt the Big Sky would allow Sac to become football member only.

If Poly does join the Big Sky, I would assume it for football only. Do you think the other 8 schools would allow a current school to dump them in all other sports to become football only? Not me, they would not agree to let a currenct school go football only and weaken the current make up of the other sports. They would however allow a school in now as football only to strengthen that sport.

I would like for CP and UCD to come on as full members, but they have too many other sports that the Sky doesn't offer in the BW. Plus the AD said a big football announcement not Univ. announcement.

Why not? Sac State going to the Big West would help out with regards to hoops scheduling. All the other sports are nowhere near as significant with scheduling changes.rationalgriz wrote:If Poly does join the Big Sky, I would assume it for football only. Because University Presidents are a stuffy bunch that would figure if Sac is to good for the Big Sky in all sports other than football, we do not want them at all. Also, it would set a precedent for other schools to move sports into other conf.

i think most r guessing football only but even if poly n davis joined as full members they could easily still have the other sports the big sky doesn't have still be in the wac or big west. sac and nau do it right now. same with bakersfield.Fresno St. Alum wrote:I would like for CP and UCD to come on as full members, but they have too many other sports that the Sky doesn't offer in the BW. I'd bet a sizable amount that it's football only. AD said "big football" announcement and Big Sky talked about adding football affiliates. SUU would/should be a full member. Big Sky is much closer than the Summit.

Except I believe that there are still enough University Presidents in the Big Sky that believe SUU is not on par academically that they would not allow them in the Big Sky.

Reporter at Bozeman Daily Chronicle has confirmed with sources that Cal Poly and UC Davis will be joining Big Sky as football only members

Re: AD at Cal Poly Football Future
SUU and the XNDs can always drop down to the PFL-West when the PFL gets their AQ in the next couple years.
Seriously though, besides joining the MVFC, what in the world are SUU, USD and UND going to do? Can they really survive in a 3-team league?

Those three will not get into the MVFC. The schools would vote it down, SDSU and NDSU barely got accepted.danefan wrote:SUU and the XNDs can always drop down to the PFL-West when the PFL gets their AQ in the next couple years.

The extra travel, especially with SUU would equal a no. Yes, USD and UND are more or less the same distance as the DSU's, but that would mean a trip to UND/NDSU AND a trip to USD/SDSU every single year. That is a lot of extra travel costs, especially for the eastern schools.

The Summit League is not going to sit by and see two (and likely soon to be three) of it's members in football limbo.
If UND gets added to The Summit League, then that gives them SIX football playing members.

If the Summit can afford to buy out the contracts that the schools have with the Missouri Valley....dbackjon wrote:So then the Summit League plays hard ball.UNI31f wrote: Those three will not get into the MVFC. The schools would vote it down, SDSU and NDSU barely got accepted.

Re: AD at Cal Poly Football Future
Davis has 24 sports after cutting four, Sac has 20 as does Poly I believe. Our softball, baseball, rowing and mens golf has had to fend outside of the Sky for over a decade. If Sac has had to do it and now the rules have changed, then it is time for Sac to join the BW in the other sports too.Fresno St. Alum wrote:I would like for CP and UCD to come on as full members, but they have too many other sports that the Sky doesn't offer in the BW. Or it is a moot point as Sac is joining the WAC in a few years anyway. I've always wondered how Davis and Poly could complain about joining the Sky for all sports and the added expense when (if) Davis and Poly join the WAC they would be required to have all their sports in basically the same footprint.
Fullerton has been staunch in saying no associate members, so something bigger must be afoot that requires the Sky to add associate football members.

Re: AD at Cal Poly Football Future
Those two schools only moved D1 because they were scared of getting left behind. They have no "real" interest in being D1 other than not letting the DSU's be the only D1 schools in the state and getting all of the "glory" that comes with being a low-major basketball program and an FCS football team.Thumper 76 wrote:This right here. NWMOST has more interest in being D1 right now than USD, maybe UND...I don't know UND as well as USD

From what I've heard somewhere around $500-$750K+ per team, and I don't know how long, but I'm pretty sure there is 5 years or so left.dbackjon wrote:How much, and how long?UNI31f wrote: If the Summit can afford to buy out the contracts that the schools have with the Missouri Valley....
