Coaches Poll- Sept 13
Appalachian State Claims the No. 1 Spot
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the third time in as many weeks, a new team sits atop the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll. Appalachian State received 11 of the 28 first-place votes and 671 total points. The Mountaineers last earned the No. 1 ranking in the 2009 preseason poll.
Appalachian State claimed the honors after a 45-14 victory over Jacksonville on Saturday. Behind quarterback DeAndre Presley, who racked up 386 yards of total offense against the Dolphins, the Mountaineers moved to 2-0 on the season.
Villanova moved up two spots this week to No. 2 after shutting out Lehigh 35-0. The Wildcats, the preseason No. 1, received eight first-place votes and 655 total points.
Making the biggest move this week was James Madison, which jumped eight spots to No. 3 after stunning Football Bowl Subdivision Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The Dukes snapped the Hokies’ 32-game home winning streak against non-conference with the 21-16 upset at Lane Stadium. James Madison received five first-place votes and 640 total votes.
Two weeks into the season, there have now been five FCS teams that have knocked off FBS opponents, which equals the total amount of wins during the entire 2009 season.
Jacksonville State, with two first-place votes, moved up to fourth this week, and Southern Illinois dropped three spots fifth in the poll but still picked up a first-place vote.
Rounding out the top 10 are Montana, Elon, New Hampshire, Richmond and Northern Iowa, which received the final first-place vote.
New to the poll this week are Cal-Poly (No. 18), South Dakota (No. 24) and Furman (No. 25). Eastern Illinois, Northern Arizona and Colgate all fell out of the Top 25 after suffering weekend loses.
Nine conferences are represented in the poll. The Colonial Athletic Association leads the way with seven teams, followed by the Big Sky and Missouri Valley with four ranked teams each. The Southern Conference has three teams in the Top 25, and the Southland and Great West Conferences each have two representatives. The Mid-Eastern Atlantic, Ohio Valley and Big South Conference have one team in this week’s poll.
FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.

Can somebody let these geniuses know there is no freaking hyphen in Cal Poly....that drives me nutz.
Re: Coaches Poll- Sept 13
So wait, we lose to Jacksonville and beat Campbell, and Jacksonville beats us and loses to the number one team in the country, but yet we get more votes that Jacksonville? The BCS polls are better than this.
THIS is why I like the CS.com poll.

What drives me even more nuts is the fact Cal Poly is 2-0, beat Montana, and Montana is 1-1 yet Montana is still ranked ahead of Cal Poly. I had Cal Poly one slot ahead of Montana in my vote.CPAlum wrote:Can somebody let these geniuses know there is no freaking hyphen in Cal Poly....that drives me nutz.

Only 7 teams in the top 25?
The CAA is slipping.
I bet we only get half our teams in the playoffs.

Yeah it is a joke, some of these teams shouldn't be ranked in the top 25 - including South Carolina State.

There's no hyphen in UC Davis, either, but nobody seems to care about that.CPAlum wrote:Can somebody let these geniuses know there is no freaking hyphen in Cal Poly....that drives me nutz.
I wouldn't be surprised if people are still using CS-Sacramento, which was NEVER accurate.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
