Delaware in the Spotlight
The Republican Senate primary is today, and some polls have the whackjob Christine O'Donnell ahead of Congressman Mike Castle, who has won 10 statewide elections. Castle is a moderate Republican, while O'Donnell has Tea Party support (and Sarah Palin, for what she's worth). If Castle wins, he's favored to beat the Democrat Chris Coons in the general election. If O'Donnell pulls the upset, the GOP will have no hope of winning the seat, much less capturing control of the Senate.
I was just the 7th person to vote at my precinct this morning, and they practically threw me a party. With light turnout on a gorgeous day, I'm not sure it bodes well for Castle. If O'Donnell gets her vote out downstate, which is more conservative, she could pull the upset. I did my duty and voted for Castle, although he's ticked me off over the years with some of his votes (such as vote for cap-and-tax). He's fiscally conservative at heart. O'Donnell is an embarrassment and a deadbeat.
I sense that Cap'n and Jellybelly, among others, will pile on with their usual stuff, but that's OK. All I can say to the "throw the bums out" types on this board is be careful what you wish for.

Here's a question for you. Normally I say if you choose not to vote, don't complain about the people in office. However, today, I can vote in my state R primaries. The only R that stands a chance in November on my list is Ehrlich, former Gov running for a new term, but he's a lock on getting the R nod anyway. My US Congressman is a lock for the Dems, so it doesn't matter who I vote for (although I could be THE vote in my district
).
Do I waste the hour to go vote?

The GOP is reduced to sectarian civil war, how does this bode well for election day?

Delaware in the Spotlight
One issue candidates NEVER last long...I'm not interested in either party right now. Hate the Democrats plans and direction for the country, and the Republicans have NO PLANS whatsoever except to go back to the status quo that got us in this mess in the first place. If ANYONE would stand up and present an idea that amounted to more than just, "Obama is wrecking the country" they would have my vote...Cap'n Cat wrote:Wedgebuster wrote:The GOP is reduced to sectarian civil war, how does this bode well for election day?

William F. Buckley said that you should vote for the most conservative candidate WHO HAS A CHANCE TO WIN. Ergo, my vote for Castle.Cap'n Cat wrote:Wedgebuster wrote:The GOP is reduced to sectarian civil war, how does this bode well for election day?

Just heard on the news that the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee will not support O'Donnell in the general election.

Any chance that Castle will run as an independent? Joe Lieberman won as an independent in Conn. a few years ago after losing the Dem primary.

LOL @ Delaware. What are the odds that this is all a setup for the Dems to keep control of Congress?
in fact, I really hope that these Tea Partiers win, form their own bloc in Congress, so you would have Tea Party Republicans, and Blue Dog Democrats. Why not? Nothing else works.

I like Castle, bummed he lost, but if we are going to have real change...there must be some pain. Hope O'Donnell wins the general election, overdoses on her own feces and gets replaced by someone not already in the crooked system known in Delaware as the Democratic Party. Coons...wow.BlueHen86 wrote:Any chance that Castle will run as an independent? Joe Lieberman won as an independent in Conn. a few years ago after losing the Dem primary.
Speaking of crooks, too bad Rangel's constituents wouldn't vote him out...but then again, that was to be expected...low life's support their own.
Can't wait until Carper runs again...wife beating, philandering whack job should lose his seat, too.

My mother once won a primary from a guy who then decided to run against her as an independent. She won by an even larger margin in the general election.

O'Donnell will be lucky to break 25% statewide in the general election.
If catamount man needs a girlfriend, she's probably available. Especially if he can help her out with her rent.

Christine O'Donnell.
CHRISTINE FUCKING O'DONNELL?!?!
Oh boy.
Chris Coon's website is hilarious today. It has pictures of O'Donnell plastered all over and "It's Official! O'Donnell wins!!!" and "Here she is! Meet our opponent!!!"
From a lifelong Castle voter, let me just say that in November I will be voting against the crazy bitch that just beat him.
