1994 Redux: Laughable Conk "Pledge"; Groveling For Votes

Post by Cap'n Cat »

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39324896/ns ... sion_2010/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The "Pledge to America" was filled with familiar (i.e., tired) proposals to slash taxes and spending and cut down on government regulation, as well as repeal President Barack Obama's health care law and end his stimulus program. In a show of unity, Senate Republicans and Haley Barbour, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, issued strong statements of support.

Republicans have sought to turn the midterm elections into a referendum on the policies of President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress. Democrats, in turn, want it to become a choice between two alternatives — what they describe as their own efforts to fix the economy, as opposed to what they criticize as Bush-era policies that led to a severe recession.

For their part, Democrats dismissed the GOP plan as recycled ideas that would further exacerbate the nation's problems.

"Republicans want to return to the same failed economic policies that hurt millions of Americans and threatened our economy," said Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

The plan steers clear of specifics on important issues, (Imagine that!!!) such as how it will "put government on a path to a balanced budget." It omits altogether the question of how to address looming shortfalls in Social Security and Medicare, which account for a huge portion of the nation's soaring deficit, instead including a vague promise: "We will make the decisions that are necessary to protect our entitlement programs. (In other words, "we didn't think through this much at all and we're looking for a publicity stunt).""

:jack: :jack: :jack: :jack: :jack:

Also not addressed is trimming the wasteful military and end two Conk-conceived wars.

Patent Conk crap, short on specifics, regurgitation of old, failed ideas. They want to stay in the present, go back to their shameful past and offer nothing for the future. How typical. Hey, if going back to this shit is so good, why not roll out old W to promote it???

Dead on arrival.

I didn't bother reading about the Pledge to America (or your post, for that matter), but I must admit, as soon as I saw the headline I thought of "Contract with America". :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

As you know, Brother Z, most of the stuff I post in Politics is just huffing and puffing and poking the Conk beast. However, lately, I've begun to realize my deep disappointment in the Democrat leadership in Washington. Not because their policies and such are failing (because I don't believe they are - it's too soon to tell), but, rather, by their lack of backbone. An example is Congresspeople voting for Health Care Reform, than running away from it and Obama when the Conks start to get stinky about it. Pure, unadulterated cowardice. They are actually "afraid" of Republicans and the Teabaggers.

If you voted for something, have a fvcking spine and see it through to completion. It ain't just Dems, either, Conks have done the same thing when faced with stiff challenges at the voting booth in upcoming elections. But, I'm not a Conk and care only for the Democrats and what I see sickens me. Last night, on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, both Olbermann and Michael Moore spent the entire time enumerating their displeasures with Harry Reid and other Dems. They are exactly right and, when you got those two liberal mouthpieces throwing up their arms, you know something's wrong.

I'll never go Conk, but I've about given up on this regime. Cowardice or indifference, Conk or Donk, no wonder voters want a new model. And I might join them.

It comes down to this, cappy: They (both donk AND conk) fully believe we (the voting public) are stupid enough to see crap like this and NOT recognize the fact taht we just had a "contract with America" 15 years ago....they BANK on the fact that Americans are stupid enough, disengaged enough, distracted enough that they can just put superficial crap like this out and we'll continue blindly voting them into office.

I guess we'll see, huh? :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

You're right, Z, and I've know that all along, too. The depths of political farce today are the most discouraging in my lifetime.

The problem always is that when the current party in power fails at being in power, the only alternative is to vote the other party into power, no matter how unappealing that other party is. If you leave failure in place, it just further entrenches those failures. The GOP got the boot in '06 and '08 because they were terrible - the same's going to happen to the Dem's in '10. And unfortunately for all of us, there isn't any other option than these two really sad political parties to choose from. I feel ya, Cappy, it's a crappy political age right now and no signs of it getting better anytime soon.

Agree, but how sad. Is this the best they can offer? A half-baked idea that wasn't followed through with when initially trotted out 15 years ago? Sadly, no, but it's the most us voters will require of them to vote them back in office..... :ohno: :coffee:

What was entertaining to me is the Conks showing up for that announcement in shirt sleeves, a bald faced attempt to identify with the Teabagger mob and Joe Sixpack when, in fact, they are two blocks further away then even the Dems are right now.

actually, I think it's "sadly, YES"...and it's STILL all voters will require to vote them back in. Hell, they'd be voted back in even WITHOUT this lame attempt at acting like statesmen.

 Now if everybody who leans left would just vote Green and everybody who leans right would get somebody to point to the libertarian candidate's name for them, we might get somewhere..

Not to defend them for I like them as little as I like their opponents but have you ever been in DC in the summer? It is miserable and this summer has been extended through September. They might have been dressed as they were just because it was HOT. And it was on Thursday.

Then again nothing in Washington is real anymore.
