Fantasy Football Keeper Advice

Post by GannonFan »

Curious what others think - I'm picking my keepers soon - get to keep 2 from last year on a 15 player team (1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 DST, 1K format). To keep them, you need to forfeit your next highest pick from where they got drafted last year - I'm drafting 10th in the first round of a snake draft this year (12 teams in total) and I have it down to Shonn Greene (picked him with the 6th pick in the 13th round last year, meaning I give up my 12th round pick to keep him) - he's almost a given really. The big question is QB's - I have Schaub who was one of my keepers last year (picked him 6th pick 11th round, meaning I give up the 10th round pick this year) and Kolb (undrafted last year, which means I give up my 15th round pick this year). Schaub was the 5th best QB in my league last year, putting up 330 points. Obviously Kolb didn't play, but McNabb in the same offense put up 265 points. Kolb is younger and less prone to injury and, since I can keep keepers from year to year, means I would have a starting QB for next to nothing for years to come. Schaub put up career numbers last year - can he do it again this year? And while he costs me little in terms of draft picks, it is still 5 rounds higher than Kolb.

So thoughts? If I keep Greene, what QB should I keep - Kolb or Schaub?

Never heard of either one of 'em.

Keep Fav-rah. I'm sure he's coming back next year. :thumb:

dont get me started on the institution of marriage. Your legally binded to that female, and if she devorces you, your stuck paying "vagina-mony" for life. not to mention she gonna own half your assets. Sounds like a great deal guy.

Never keep a guy based on a career year.

Its also worth pointing out in your points comparrison that McNabb missed two games last year. You should look at avergae points per game between Schaub and the points Kolb earned in his two starts.

Good point, and amazing, being an Eagles fan, I forgot that McNabb missed those two games. Schaub averaged 20.6 in his 16 games and McNabb put up 18.9 in his 14 games. Think Kolb could do at least as well, and Schaub may come back a little bit. With that even (or close enough) I may opt the Kolb route. :thumb:

As long as Andre Johnson is catching passes, Schaub is the guy to keep. Kolb is untested, young, and has not really known either way what he's capable of. Kolb is a risk, IMO.. just because McNabb did it doesn't mean Kolb will. Here's an example for you: John Elway retired. His replacement was Brian Griese. Highly drafted, son of a great QB, minimal experience, same offense as John. I'll let you fill in the blank.

And of course Schaub had a career year.. HE'S ONLY BEEN STARTING FOR 3 YEARS!!

I did actually - the rest of the league voted to do away with keepers after this year, so it ended up being a one-year evaluation (i.e. Kolb's advantage was that I would be able to keep him for low, low draft picks for years to come). Schaub was easily a better "this year" pick than Kolb - and luckily for me, I picked correctly. I'll be 2-1 after today - Schaub, Wayne, and Clark didn't help a lot today and Keller's 2 TD's tonight are pretty much putting the nail in the coffin of my first loss. Bummer.
