Re: #3 Delaware @ #5 JMU Game Thread
Ok, thats reasonable to say that. Before you said JMU wouldn't get to Devlin, which implies zero sacks. Also about not getting any on Liberty, Liberty was mostly using a 2-3 second short passing game. Only exceptions I can recall were a few play action to the tightend down the middle (they hit on 3 of 4 of those as I remember). JMU still managed to get some heat on Brown, just couldn't sack the elusive SOB. So unless Devlin has all of a sudden become as elusive as Tyrod Taylor & Mike Brown or goes almost exclusively to a 2-3 second short game, he will get hit, and JMU will likely get a few sacks.GannonFan wrote:Yup, Uhll is still starting for the Hens after being beat up by better lineman the past two years. And as typically happens with age, he's actually really good now. Funny how an offensive line that sticks togther for a few years starts playing well together. 4 Jr's and 1 Sr on the line, with a great RB and a great QB behind them all of a sudden becomes a very potent offense. I'm sure they all look forward to returning the bitch slapping this time around. I don't think JMU gets any more than 2 sacks all day, btw.BDKJMU wrote:
So you think JMU will get 0 sacks against UD after 8 last yr?JMU is as good or better at 3 of the 4 DL positions plus better on the 2 deep. Does UD still have starting at OT that underweight tackle (#74?) that has gotten bitch slapped by the top de ends in the CAA the last 2 years?
Sure JMU got zero against Tyrod Taylor, but he is one of the most mobile QBs in all of college football, playing behind an o line that will be the best JMU sees all year. Mike Brown of Liberty, while not quite Tyrod Taylor escapability, is extremely difficult to corral (JMU did get numerous hits on Brown). JMU won't see another QB like those 2 again for the rest of the season, at least until the playoffs.
JMU won't sack Devlin 8 times again. They also won't be held sackless either.

You would think 5dimes would learn their lesson. They had us as a 17 point favorite over Liberty. Regardless of what you think of the straight-up outcome, take the Hens and the points!!

I love betting FCS games. The oddsmakers have no clue & it's easy money. Lat week I took UD at +4 against Richmond & completely wiped out my credit card debt. This week I'll take the +9 & hope to pay off my car!!!

FCS Game of the Year so far, right, hasn't been a matchup of two top-5 teams to my recollection...

Nope. Montana @ EWU was bigger!
I would say yes, which just shows you how crazy things can be.
These teams were both in the mid teens in most preseason polls IIRC.

Re: #5 Delaware @ #3 JMU Game Thread
Does the winner of this game basically punch their playoff ticket?
UD would be 5-0 with Maine, URI, @ W&M, Towson, @ UMass, Villanova left to play.
JMU would be 4-0 with @ Towson, UNH, @ Villanova, UMass, @ Richmond, W&M, @ Maine
Obviously UD would have the edge already having one more win (especially since it's Richmond) and gets URI instead of UNH. They also have the DII win in there, but I really don't think an 8-3 UD (or JMU) gets left out. It's looking like the MEAC, OVC, PL, Big South and NEC are all one bid conferences. Getting to 8 seems close to a lock for either team if they win this week.

I don't know if I'd go that far with JMU. I'm sufficiently scared of the other CAA teams that we could just as easily go 7-0 as 1-6 even if we win this game (sorry Andy). For UD, as you stated, I think it's a little easier to say. At 5-0 with Towson and URI still on the schedule (both at your place, so I think there's less chance of a "small crowd letdown" to deal with against URI), you're looking at seven wins right there, meaning you have to go 1-3 against the other four, which they'll do.

I am too, but add in the fact that the winner of this game would have just beaten what appears to be a pretty darn good team... I'm just sayin.mcveyrl wrote:I'm sufficiently scared of the other CAA teams

Oh yea, I think you're right. For JMU, until we show some consistency my fear is still that we'll poo the bed a few times and be in a hole that's tough to get out of (speaking of: my wife and I watched Slumdog Millionaire last night and really liked it).
UD will have shown that consistency by winning and have the advantage of being 2-0 in conference. I think their ticket is much more punched than ours with a win.

Agreed. Either team should feel pretty darn good about themselves, but man, there's so little time to pat yourself on the back in this conference. We might be able to a little bit of time, but that depends on what Maine and UNH do up there this weekend. If Maine is sitting at 1-4 and 0-2 in conference (0-3 at home), they're cooked, and TT will officially have to hand over his notebook computer for putting so much stock in the black bears.89Hen wrote:Does the winner of this game basically punch their playoff ticket?

But I do think the winner of this game is probably 80% sure that they're going to be playing football in early December.
Re: #5 Delaware @ #3 JMU Game Thread
I would agree with that percentage for JMU, but I think UD is 95% with a win, given the road spelled out above. That win against Richmond really helps you all feel better from a record standpoint, I think.State Line Liquors wrote:Agreed. JMU needs to go 4-3 and with UNH, Nova, UMass, Richmond AND W&M on their schedule still, that's a tough order. Then again, Assuming wins over Towson & Maine, that means going 2-3 through those 5. THAT seems less onerous.89Hen wrote:Does the winner of this game basically punch their playoff ticket?

UD basically qualifies for the playoffs with a win on Saturday. There's only 3 teams left after this week that even have a shot against the Hens. 8-3 or better gets you in.89Hen wrote:Does the winner of this game basically punch their playoff ticket?

This game may prove to have more to do with playoff seeding chances for 2 teams very likely to both be in. Regarding that, both teams will have to deal with the fact that UMass and Nova don't play each other this year.
