That's fine, but to me that's just a tackle. He can't ease up once he's decided to tackle him. Or at least I don't think he should. I can understand UD folks being pissed, but if he had the ball and Bryant let go because he's standing up, you guys would be belly laughing at our inept tackling. Again, we're probably spinning our wheels. (But I keep doing it...so... )

I think we've probably scared away most every other fan base, but we need more people like Clenz, who has no vested interest in this, to speak up. He's given UD the 1-0 lead.

??? I just watched the video. After the initial hit, the defender's staring at Devlin's back the whole time.

BTW I played DE, and I hate the protection the QB's get. I was called for "roughing" more than once on calls that were bullshit.


BTW I screen shotted the play right at the point where Devlin's hands come out of the RB stomach. The defender has YET TO MAKE CONTACT at that point. That is at the 7 second mark. The initial hit is fine. The whipping motion of driving Devlin to the ground is the issue.

Oh, BTW the defenders head doesn't get to "waist level" until he is on his way to the ground...otherwise he is shoulder level.

Agreed, hitting the QB is part of the game.. but that whipping of Devlin into the turf was totally unnecessary and appeared to be an attempt to injure.

Devlin doesn't fake a run, he braces himself for a hit. At 7 seconds, Bryant hits Devlin around the shoulders, not the waist, and Bryany has BOTH of Devlin's forearms...and NO ball. At the 8 second mark, AP is already 5 yards away, Bryant readjusts his grip and takes a couple steps to readjust his legs (he knows what he is going to do next)...both of Devlin's hands are still in front of him with no ball, Bryant is pivoting and Devlin is standing straight up. At the 9 second mark, Bryant begins his pile drive and by pulling Devlin across Bryant's legs and proceeeds to drive his head and shoulders into the ground.

That was intentional.

Devlin looks to be OK for the following weeks, but let's not pretend that Bryant didn't know what he was doing.

And, as you've mentioned elsewhere...UD stoned JMU in the second half. 69 yards. In the meantime, that pvssie Bryant let a freshman QB drive his team down the field a couple times...including the game winning drive.

Yep. There will have to be some major faltering by UD at this point for that not to happen. I think UD would have to lose two and JMU win out...slim chance of both IMO.
