Re: Andy Reid Watch - 2010 Edition
Probably gone unnoticed in a division where the Giants put up almost 500 yards and still lose by 19 points and where the Redskins go out to lowly St. Louis and get absolutely throttled by the Rams, but with the standings today, the Philadelphia Eagles sit alone atop the NFC East standings. Whudda thunk it?

I've gotta be real honest. I didn't expect Vick to be this good, but I just don't feel right rooting for such a pathetic human being. Sure he's supposedly paid his price, but I have a hard time pulling for a POS. It's just not the same feeling I've had in the past when the Eagles were atop the division. It's kind of like if the Phils signed A-Rod this offseason. I'd love seeing the Phils win, but I'd feel so douchey in the process.

Many Mexicans grow up watching bull fights. It's part of their culture and, simply put, something that they grew up knowing as acceptable.
Mike Vick grew up in the hood watching dog fights...
I'm an animal lover, but I can see how someone who grew up in a different circumstance might not see this dog fighting thing in as horrific a light as you or me. I think it is easy for us that grew up in white, picket fence America to harshly judge those that didn't. .02
BTW, I really think the guy has matured through these ordeals. He's just gotta learn to dis his old homeboys.
Re: Andy Reid Watch - 2010 Edition
I hear ya, but it's the same line of reasoning lawyers use when they bring up the horrible childhoods of accused child molesters. IMHO, regardless of what you've been dealt in life, you still ought to know right from wrong. There are plenty of people that were brought up in bad environs and still know right from wrong without jail time or counseling from Tony Dungy.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:I have a bit of a different take...93henfan wrote:I've gotta be real honest. Well, child molesting is not a cultural thing as far as I know...93henfan wrote:I hear ya, but it's the same line of reasoning lawyers use when they bring up the horrible childhoods of accused child molesters. Vick did a lot of stupid shit, but I try to make a habit of putting myself in other peoples shoes. Damn, I've done a lot of stupid shit...
Anyway, I thought the dog fighting thing was overblown and I think the guy needs to distance himself from the people that get him in to trouble. From a person who has had his fair share of trouble, I'm rooting for the guy.

I've got no problem with Vick now - sure he was a POS and he got busted for it and did a lot of time and lost a lot of money. I wouldn't necessarily want to hang out with him even now, but let's be honest, a lot of pro athletes are guys you wouldn't want to be with either. He's done his time, and now he's playing - it's as simple as that.

No doubt, but it doesn't mean I have to like or accept him. It's a shame that the team I like is being led by a POS is all I was saying. It certainly makes is less enjoyable, to me anyway.
There's still a chance that once the Eagles play some decent teams and Vick flounders a bit that Kolb gets his job back. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

So you're a big Mike Vick fan. Good to hear. Electrocuting, beating, and torturing animals is no big deal in your book. Cool.89Hen wrote:Glad to know you can forgive and forget.

You sound like Z jumping from A to X in one fell swoop. You're basically saying you don't believe somebody can be remorseful and change. What he did was horrible, but he did his time, served his penalty and seems to be a different person for it. Second chances are a pretty cool thing sometimes.93henfan wrote:So you're a big Mike Vick fan. Good to hear. Electrocuting, beating, and torturing animals is no big deal in your book. I'm not buying a Vick jersey nor touting him at all to my kids - I'm just rooting for the Eagles. If he had escaped punishment somehow I'd feel different, but he clearly had the book thrown at him in terms of what the law allows and now he's on the other side of that.93henfan wrote:GannonFan wrote:I've got no problem with Vick now - sure he was a POS and he got busted for it and did a lot of time and lost a lot of money. Yup, just ugly stuff. I think 8-8 wins the NFC East this year. And I don't think the Eagles do that.93henfan wrote:Vick - rib cartilage injury

How can you get flagged for too much time AFTER a timeout? Inquiring minds want to know.
And it's another time-management "pulled pork sandwich" for Mr. Andy Reid.

Not to defend Reid too much, but the officials did them no favor there. As Buck and Aikman stated, they thought the clock was reset too early. Plus, there was still a ref engaged in discussion with Reid when the clock was down to about 15. You'd think he say "hey buddy, you better get your play in" to Reid or something.Ivytalk wrote:How can you get flagged for too much time AFTER a timeout? Inquiring minds want to know.![]()

That was a killer, leaving four points on the field. Those four points plus the extra point instead of a failed two point try would have sent the game to OT.

Re: Andy Reid Watch - 2010 Edition
You're assuming the Eagles would have scored a TD on 4th down though. They had the ball on the 4 with 1st and goal, and couldn't get in the endzone with 2 runs and 1 pass attempt. It could have been a very different game had they not scored at all to end the first half...of course, knowing the Redskins that would mean the Eagles would have won.93henfan wrote:Not to defend Reid too much, but the officials did them no favor there. Yeah, Aikman really sided with the Eagles on that one - and also pointed out how a bunch of teams had been burned by quick restarts so far this year.93henfan wrote:Not to defend Reid too much, but the officials did them no favor there. It was amazing hearing Aikman talk about McNabb, though - certainly came across that Aikman didn't really like him or his play very much. He criticized McNabb for having a history of throwing it into the dirt after he did it once in the game. On that scramble that gave them a 1st down late in the game, McNabb pointed for a first down while he was running, and then ran out of bounds (thereby stopping the clock) - Aikman basically mocked McNabb for it during the replay.

Re: Andy Reid Watch - 2010 Edition
Wasn't it cool to see McNabb hitting his receivers' shoelaces all second half and actually be able to cheer about it? Conversely, I recall two big 3rd down scrambles for 1st downs in the second half that made me cringe.

I went through weeks of deep soul-searching after reading this post and around 9pm last night I had an epiphany and decided to go ahead and forgive Mike Vick.89Hen wrote:Glad to know you can forgive and forget.93henfan wrote:No doubt, but it doesn't mean I have to like or accept him. So, what to do with Vick? Should they extend him now, wait until the offseason before he's a UFA in March, or franchise him?
