Late yesterday, Gallup came out with new numbers on the generic ballot question—which party’s candidates would you vote for in the election for House of Representatives? Among registered voters Gallup shows Republicans ahead by 46%-42%, about as good a score as Republicans have ever had (and about as bad a score as Democrats have ever had) since Gallup started asking the question in 1942.
However, Gallup also shows the results for two different turnout models. Under its “high turnout model” Republicans lead 53%-40%. Under its “low turnout model” Republicans lead 56%-38%.
These two numbers, if translated into popular votes in the 435 congressional districts, suggest huge gains for Republicans and a Republican House majority the likes of which we have not seen since the election cycles of 1946 or even 1928. For months, people have been asking me if this year looks like ’94. My response is that the poll numbers suggest it looks like 1994, when Republicans gained 52 seats in a House of 435 seats. Or perhaps somewhat better for Republicans and worse for Democrats. The Gallup high turnout and low turnout numbers suggest it looks like 1894, when Republicans gained more than 100 seats in a House of approximately 350 seats...

I didn't read the article, but if the numbers are correct it would indicate a huge congressional shakeup - my thought is that the Tea Party effect in the Republican primaries and its related fragmentation of the party may have cost the Repubs some seats - O' Donnell in Delaware is an example where her opponent had wider appeal vs. his Dem opponent than she does and she will lose the seat.
Kalm, the problem is...the Dem's just don't comprehend their Type "A" self righteous arrogance has destroyed the American economy. Here's just one example I had to deal with this week.
All employers in CA, and in most states, are required to post certain "labor law" information in employee break areas or their office environment. In CA, it's commonly a "combined" poster, about 42" x 36" with numerous bulletins displayed providing information about minimum wage, workers comp, govt. labor agency contact info, etc...
Every time the state legislature passes a bill modifying language to any of the 16 or so documents displayed on the poster, the poster vendors update, send out revised copies along with a bill for $25 to $42 depending on the type of material (plasticized) and vendor price: I pay $34, about average.
This year, as with most years, our infamous Leftislature passed a bill requiring a minor change...
Patients' Rights - HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY SPECIFIC
09/21/10 — The California Patients' Rights poster has been updated to reflect that patients have the right to know the name of the licensed healthcare practitioner acting within the scope of his or her professional licensure who has the primary responsibility for coordinating the care of the patient.
Workers' Comp — English and Spanish
08/20/10 — The California Workers' Compensation poster has been updated to reflect extensive changes made due to recently amended Medical Provider Network (MPN) and employee information regulations. Some additional rewording was also made to the poster. Employers are required to update this "Notice to Employees" poster by October 8, 2010 to comply with the amended regulations.
Hence, another new poster.
Now, multiply that by the number of employers in CA, approx . 2.1 million private and public sector offices requiring the display of the poster, and, et voila, $71,500,000 erased from the California economy.
Note that I say "erased from the CA economy as all of the "poster" vendors I found are located outside CA (probably due to labor costs and environmental regulations), and of those vendors, I'd wager a sizable sum, the posters are produced overseas (as was mine, in China).
But do you think the Dems sitting around the conference table gave any thought that their "minor regulatory change" would eliminate $70 million and thousands of jobs from the State's economy.
Fuck, no!
At a time when CA's economy has collapsed, and it HAS, preservation of jobs and DEVELOPMENT of business should be the government's #1 priority. The same is true for Capital Hill and the slew of anti-business laws passed since the Dems took over in 2006.
Wonder why our economy is collapsing? Only a deluded fool doesn't know the answer.

But you're addressing a SYMPTOM, and not the ROOT CAUSE, T-Man. The ISSUE isn't the elimination of $70 million from the economy, it's the stupid fucking requirement that every business in America post "labor law" posters in their break rooms that not a SINGLE FUCKING EMPLOYEE EVER READS.
It's the attorneys (masquarading as knights in shining armor) that are ruining the country. $70 million at a time.

Ah yes, the famous poster of the pitiful looking lady with the full cast on her arm going up above the elbow... I took a sharpie to the one in our break room and gave her some nice sideburns, a couple of tattoos, a fu manchu beard, and some nice signatures on her cast.

When do the poster police come, inspect your business, and hand out fines for non-compliance?
(I'm required by law to post the same crap, but if I keep buying the updates every month, the labor law poster company that is based in Pennsylvania promises to pay any violations up to $17,000)
