That indeed is the problem for the best coast teams. Instead of non-schollie FCS sure wins, we have to either travel, schedule 2 FBS games, or play DII's like Central Washington who don't count for playoff consideration but offer scholarships to PAC-10 caliber transfers.

That being said, it would be really cool for Eastern to schedule home and homes with some midwest and east coast teams like you guys do.

Agreed.. but we were hangin' with Fresno State at halftime.. dog fans were saying "we deserve to lose this game" (and generally deriding themselves) I know what the final score was- but there were a terrible calls- including one fumble which was clearly ours which might have changed things further.

I agree though, the proof is in the puding. We'll see what the final mark is at the end of the season.. I expect us to lose at least one more game.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

An 8-3 (7-3) CP will make the playoffs, guaranteed. Especially with 2 more AL bids this year.

Remember the "bridge AQ" is still available for teams in conferences without an AQ (e.g. Great West).

2 wins versus teams from conferences with an AQ
8 DI wins
Average ranking of 20 or higher in the TSN polls, Coaches poll, and Modified GPI (4 computer rankings, no AGS poll included).

Cal Poly has 2 wins over AQ teams (Montana and McNeese)
They need run the table to get 8 DI wins, but that is possible.
If they run they table they'll definitely be in the top 20.

If they meet those requirements, the NCAA has no choice but to give them a bid.

The 5 roadies in a row is silly, but the "fly clear across the country" is not a good excuse. It's what, a 4 hour flight? Many teams bus trips are a lot longer than that.

I don't think that's correct. They don't have the minimum number of teams for an auto.

I would guess it is quiet a bit more than that. Heck they are leaving Thursday morning. I fly from San Diego to upstate NY once or twice a year and it takes about 8 hours to get to my destination. Cal Poly would likely bus to LA (3 hour drive) from San Luis Obispo, then take a flight (maybe 5 hours?) to Virgina and that assumes there is a direct flight from LA to Norfolk. No excuses at all but that is a b!atc! of a trip.

Cal Poly's schedule is absolutely crazy. I calculated the distance they'll be travelling just in this 5 game stretch (considering they go back to campus after every game), and the distance is ~11,610 miles. That's roughly the distance from Anchorage, AK to the southern most point of South America.

And I just looked up direct flights from Norfolk to L.A. and there aren't any. They all stop in Texas and the whole trip is usually near 8 hours.

Lookin' forward to see these road warriors in Norfolk on Saturday night.

Most FCS schools travel on chartered flights, which solve the non-stop flight issues.

We've been doing this kind of travelling for years at Albany. It sucks, but sometimes it has to be done. Albany is the last team in the country (FCS and FBS) to not have had a home game yet. The Danes also travelled 6,000+ miles and to 4 states to to play the first 4 games.

I feel for you Cal Poly. Road games suck.

People in Montana have a farther walk from their car to the stadium than UD travels for "away" games. :coffee:

Eh, so Montana has road trips twice as far as UD - with traffic they end up taking the same time. It's a wash.

I call BS on that one. Cal Poly was 10-1 that year, and they played not just one, two, or three sub DI teams, but a grand total of at least four (4) non DI teams. There's no way a team with 4 DII or lower opponents makes the playoffs, and certainly not back in '97.

With that said, I see an 8-3 Cal Poly team get in this year. We'll see if they get to 8-3, though.

Oh bullshit. It's not the time it takes to travel, it's the traveling across timezones. An early afternoon game on the least coast is a morning game on the Best coast. Not to mention all the jet lag. Ooooh, bus trips. Cry me a fuckin' river.

We are playing at 6:00pm, so the early game won't be a problem and the weather should be mid 70's and sunny. We are really looking forward to this game.

If any Cal-Poly fans are traveling...please give me a PM we have a large group (5 spots) and you would be a welcome addition. We also have a tailgating facebook group and can send you an invite.

Love their moxie for hitting the road.

"Once we leave campus, it will take us about 11 hours to get to ODU," Walsh said. "Not a lot of people want to come to us to play us because it's not easy getting here."

Liar, liar, your pants are on fire. The west is often overrepresented in the playoffs and Cal Poly was 10-1 in 1997 beating Cal Davis (DII), Montana-Western (DII), Western New Mexico (DII), St Mary's (non-schollie), New Mexico State, Simon Fraser (who know's what he is), UNI, Montana State, Dayton (non-schollie), and Sac St. Lost to Liberty. Not snubbed. The next year they played a full DI schedule (one DII) and went 3-8. Next.

First off you don't hear any Cal Poly fans crying about being left out of the playoffs in 1997.

How about the Hens catch a comercial flight to California to play Cal Poly? I did not think so.

Why is Cal Poly flying commercial? Most NEC teams don't even fly commerical any more.

I'm glad I read further than just SH's post because I remember that 10-1 season and how weak the schedule was. Not knocking Cal Poly but they realized after that season that they were not getting anywhere unless they had a decent schedule and they have done what it takes to make sure they have had one ever since.

They were not snubbed that year, they didn't earn the right to be in that year despite whatever the fucked up voices are you telling you SH.

On the other side. I don't care what any of you E Coasters say as far as the flights not killing a team. They do. I saw a study of NFL teams that had to fly across the country on back to back weeks and they had almost no chance of winning their second game when that happened. That shit takes it out of a team especially if the team is traveling from the West to the East.

Cry me a river. That just tells me if you want to win lots of football games you shouldn't be playing for a team out West anyway. These stats are available to anyone, so if you play football out West it's just your fault for ignoring stats that are clear as day.
