Not deflecting. I can't find it. I can find where Tweedle Dum has said it many times, but apparently you believe Jesus existed but wasn't who we say he was. Is that correct?Cap'n Cat wrote:Nope. Waiting for you to come up with the evidence, b*tch. Are you deflecting? Again?

Re: Think Jesus Would Defend Gays?
Modern Christ-hating "Scribes and Pharisees" seek to trap Christians and find excuses for every conceivable dysfunctional behavior, but the excuses for the gay life style cannot be found in Scripture. Jesus would be no more enamored of the gay lifestyle than he was enamored of the prostitution lifestyle or the money changers at the temple. Yet it is clear that Jesus loves gays, prostitutes and money changers just as He loves everyone. He would "love the sinner and hate the sin."*
The story of the adulteress in John 8 is instructove here: "...3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. ..." John 8
The bottom line is that Jesus would love gays, but condemn their behavior, just as he loved the adulteress while condemning her behavior.
* The phrase, "love the sinner and hate the sin," is attributed to Ghandi, but was perhaps first articulated by St. Augustine in his letter 211 (c. 424), which contains the phrase "Cum dilectione hominum et odio vitiorum," which translates roughly as "With love for mankind and hatred of sins."

Good stuff. I need to read some Augustine for real, and not just for school. He's got a lot of great thoughts.native wrote: * The phrase, "love the sinner and hate the sin," is attributed to Ghandi, but was perhaps first articulated by St. Augustine in his letter 211 (c. 424), which contains the phrase "Cum dilectione hominum et odio vitiorum," which translates roughly as "With love for mankind and hatred of sins."

Re: Think Jesus Would Defend Gays?
And to answer the question, the Jesus I believe in would defend anyone who was being treated unfairly under the guise of religion. I don't think He'd go to bat politically for homosexuals (He didn't do that for anyone, including His followers), but on a personal level He would because He cares for their soul.

So what we've established is that Jesus would condemn the stoning of gays?
Re: Think Jesus Would Defend Gays?
How do you know Jesus wasn't gay? According to the myth the dude hung out, exclusively, with 12 dudes his whole life and loved his mother (a little too much). He was also an attention whore and wanted people to worship him.native wrote:Modern Christ-hating "Scribes and Pharisees" seek to trap Christians and find excuses for every conceivable dysfunctional behavior, but the excuses for the gay life style cannot be found in Scripture. "Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Why disrespectful? You and the rest of the racists (Alpha, Z, Tbag...) take shots at Allah all the time. Your god is just as ridiculous and just as mythical.

Re: Think Jesus Would Defend Gays?
If you go with the descriptions he loved everybody but that doesn't mean he sanctioned all behavior. I know of no accounts where he is reported as speaking to the issue of homosexuality but I strongly suspect that if he existed and was as presented he would've said that the practice of homosexuality is sin and certainly would not have gone along with the idea of homosexual marriage. I'd say the character as presented would not have sanctioned stoning homosexuals or anything like that but he still would've told them to "sin no more."
The idea that Jesus and/or God loves everybody is not the same as the idea that Jesus and/or God sanctions all behavior.

[/quote]The only Christian sect I am personally aware of that might be construed as contending that God hates homosexuals is the Phelps group. Every other time I've heard or read a Christian on the subject the idea has been that God does love homosexuals just like He loves everybody else. As a broader matter, God loves everybody and everybody is a sinner.
That does not mean that the idea is that God condones sin.

You don't know anything about god. You have a hunch based on the error laden ramblings of an illiterate bronze aged cult in a shithole part of the earth. Those fuckers believed the earth was flat, but they were dead on about god, right?

Can you picture Jesus spitting in a gay fisherman's face and damning him to Hell? From what I've read of Jesus and what was taught to me in my hard time at the Catholic grade school, I cannot see him being as mean as Catholic dogma is today. Remember when considering this that the Bible was written hundreds of years after Jesus was around.
