Should SFA try for FBS?

Post by AxeEmJacks »

We've been pretty dominant in most sports the past few years. IF we have another good year, would it make sense to upgrade Homer Bryce and should we put money into trying for an FCS bid? Its looking like we have the academics, we have the teams, what else, other than the stadium, would it take to make us either than a more dominant force in the SLC or get into the WAC. Considering UTSA hasn't fielded a team and Lamar has just recently. Why aren't we in talks of moving up?

Like TXST, (after George) I would wait to see how it goes on the field after you don't have Moses. I mean, who is the back-up? How's that running game developing? What happens next year when you don't have that arm and your running game isn't there?

Aside from football, because it really is just one part of the equation...it's facilities and academic standards/retention/graduation. It's a big picture whose total parts I'm not completely familiar with. Where does SFA fall (in TX) as far as academic requirements for admission? Enrollment? Are you Tier 1? In what category? Lots of things to check out besides athletics.

I thought it was only FBS fans that thought FCS was DII. ha ha

Don't try and move up to FCS. You already are FCS!

No way stay where they are. Dalton Williams is the back up from Coppel. He has been the back up for two seasons. He is actually redshirting this year so he can start three years. He is a much better athlete than Jeremy. He is going to be just fine. As far as our running game we use our screen to wr as part of our running game. We also gained 1800 yards last year which I bet not many people knew. Our backs are younger this year but we have run the ball well and its help mix the offense up. Our coaches do a good job with our offense, and they have a goal with run pass percentage we were 59 perecnt pass last year as well. Hope that helped.

Stay where your at (im assuming you ment to say "try for FBS"). I would be pissed if i went to GoCCUsports.com and it said "Sun Belt Conference invites Coastal Carolina to FBS" because I would much rather compete in the Big South for the auto bid and enter a tournament rather than a crappy bowl game.

Ummmm, don't get carried away now

Yeah, we've had a decent run the last year and a half in football, and our basketball team has made the tournament once, and the SLC final a few times. Our women's basketball is ok. We don't have a baseball team. We don't have a men's soccer team.

We are not a Division I school, and for good reason. If we did join a BCS conference, we'd be at the bottom in most sports. Just because we've been competitive for the last few years in the SLC doesn't mean anything. It's not like we have been dominating.

And, remember, this team before Moses was 0-11. We weren't good for about 10 years before that. In the mid 90s we had an ok run. But, nothing about us says we should be talking FBS. I'd rather have it that way. I think FBS has too many schools.

Per cfbdatawarehouse.com

All Time Football Record - 356-459-31

Yeah, you dominate FCS football

You do have a baseball team and it's pretty good, so is the softball team. Most SLC schools do not have men's soccer, so that's not an issue.
Going FBS doen't mean BCS. The WAC is not a BCS conference.

But I agree with one thing, I'm not interested in going to the Toilet Bowl. I'd rather strive for and go to the playoffs

Maybe they should try to beat McNeese first :)

12-10 SFA on a safety. But if McNeese could get their O going it would already be over. Let's see what happens with halftime adjustments. MSU has, like, 4 turnovers and about 7 penalties. I'm keeping up on this on the SLC score thread.

Hey, watching this game, if you guys put SFA in the top 5 then we have a big problem in the FCS.

Also, TXST needs to drop into the low teens, if anything, cause we laid a major egg today.

Are you serious or are you just kidding about this or were you high when you wrote this? How long have you been following SFA? There is no way in hell they are going to even consider this. First of all football is the only sport that SFA is at the FCS level. All other sports we're Division I and are eligible to go to post season tournaments. Second SFA couldn't even get $3.5 million dollars to build a new baseball/softball field a couple years ago. What would make you think they could get money for improvements for Homer Bryce. SFA also doesn't have the fan base. We don't travel well to away games now that are only 8 hours at the most. What would make you think fans would travel even further to go to a game? And why would you want to move up to FBS in football? So we can become another FIU, FAU, ULL, ULM etc. I would rather stay at the division we are at now and be competitive rather than just be someone's "sure thing" on their schedule every year.

So I guess top five teams aren't allowed to have a bad game on the road and against a team that has always been a top team in the conference?

Because I've been following the whole of the FCS for awhile and the top 5 teams I have been following (in past years) just do not play this badly. It was an ugly game all the way around. McNeese is not a good team this year, plain and simple, and they were in it for far too long. Road game or not, if you are good you win no matter where the game is (except the FBS teams most of the SLC plays.) Also, as I said, TXST needs to drop way down. No where near a top 15 IMHO, even if it turns out to be our crap/fugly game...TXST should not have allowed that fiasco to happen. UCA shouldn't get any love either. They just lost to NWS who was 0fer DI teams since 2008.

I don't go on past years' performances or reputation.

While we have a concentration of Lumberjack fans in one spot... think you guys could help us update this?

damn clenz, yes i know FCS is Division I. Sorry I misworded what I said. I know the FCS is division I. Just saying that FCS is a different level of division I since it sounded like the OP didn't know what he was talking about.
