Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
I am guilty as anyone else who has still been voting Richmond in the top 25, but this loss to UNH should about put the nail in the coffin.
Shame, their reputation certainly carried them far in this years poll. May they rebound soon, especially with that sweet azz new stadium.

Cut them some slack, their punter was playing qb.

Was the punter the Qb for the other losses as well?rumple wrote:Cut them some slack, their punter was playing qb.

And with him playing the next month or so at QB unless they have a RS freshman they are willing to toss the redshirt on... than they shouldnt be in the top 25 anymore... Injuries suck... but this team isnt a top 25 team with a punter at QBrumple wrote:Cut them some slack, their punter was playing qb.

No. Corp (transfer from USC?) got a knee injury early in this game (rumors season ending). Their backup was injured also recently and will be out for a few weeks too from my understanding.SeattleGriz wrote:Was the punter the Qb for the other losses as well?rumple wrote:Cut them some slack, their punter was playing qb.
Their previous ranking was not due to reputation alone. Their only 2 losses before this were to FBS UVA and #1 Delaware and they had a win over Elon.
That said, based on their injuries, I agree that they should no longer be ranked in the top 25 anymore.
Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
Considering they beat Elon and Elon is giving App State a scare right now, I don't think Richmond was bad by any menas before the QB injury. That, and three losses, certainly puts them in a bad spot now, but to insinuate they were chopped liver before now is kind of silly.

We have a true frosh that I hope we don't burn a shirt on.
Laub (#2) got hurt in the Elon game, Corp (#1) got hurt today (looks like a knee), so Hicks (#3 and punter but a QB until last year) got the call today and it was ugly. I hope we can figure out how to run the wildcat/pistol/option in a week.

Sounds like the '08 Hens with a QBBC consisting of our starting WR and TE.ur2K wrote:UNHWildCats wrote: And with him playing the next month or so at QB unless they have a RS freshman they are willing to toss the redshirt on... than they shouldnt be in the top 25 anymore... Let's just accept the fact that some years a team is really bad. For Richmond, this is one of those years. Even though we really suck right now, I will still pull for the Spiders! A true fan sticks with their team in the sucky years as well as the NC years!

Richmond will be back...next year...they have a good program...
Between a new coaching staff and these injuries...their year is pretty near shot...but I have a little insight into what is coming and they will be back...

Was wondering who that QB was...yes UR is done, not a factor this year.

Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
They are toast for this year, but the Richmond team I saw 2 weeks ago vs. UD will make some noise next year. No more Top 25 this year, but they will deserve consideration in next years pre-season poll.

I guarantee that they and Elon will be at the bottom, but still ranked, in a couple polls.

Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
No shame for Richmond - they weren't that bad of a team prior to this, but once you're stuck playing your punter as a QB for several weeks, then your season is pretty much over. But hey, the stadium is cute (btw, what's up with putting a track in the new stadium? )

Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
They will be a great team next year...this year not so much, and I don't think most sane people expected too much out of a team that went through those sorts of changes. When you lose that many starters and that great coaching staff a downfall will happen invariably. They will be back though.
As for the Top 25 thing...with so few teams deserving of top 25 votes its really hard to completely drop them out, but yeah...this puts them right on the fringe. Richmond may only have raw potential and not right now talent, but that's more than most FCS schools seem to have this year.
The polls are just impossible to construct this year.

Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
Richmond has had a nice couple of years. But after losing London and all those starters from last year's squad I think a lot of people saw that preseason ranking as WAY TO HIGH and doubted their ability to have a similar season unless some of the new players really came on (like Corp) as the season went on. Like I mentioned on here a week or so ago, Richmond will be lucky to finish .500 this season.

Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
I completely disagree about the freshman. If we cling to his redshirt this year, and he never takes a snap in 2011 (he will be 3rd string again next year) we will have wasted a year of his eligibility.ur2K wrote:We have a true frosh that I hope we don't burn a shirt on.

We are defintely toast, but one thing I'd like to point out. If Mike London was still here, we'd probably be 1-4 because he would have blown clock management against Elon.AppStateAlumQC wrote:Richmond has had a nice couple of years. London did a pathetic job recruiting on the offensive and defensive lines. Really, London brilliantly got out of UVA when there were storm clouds with Al Groh ... and brilliantly got out of here when there were storm clouds ... and still smelled like a rose.
We will be back next year. Hopefully we can get Laub back and sneak a team or two before its all said and done for 2010.
Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
But if you play him this year until Laub gets back which may only be 2 weeks, you will likely only have him for 4 years instead of 5.ChoppinBroccoli wrote:I completely disagree about the freshman. Look at the QBs we have on the roster, Corp will have 1 year left after this one, Laub will have 2. You redshirt White this year and have him as the starter for 2 full years instead of 1 after Laub leaves. I don't want to mortgage the future on what is looking like a year where we don't have to worry about the postseason.

Re: Can we finally put Richmond out to pasture?
Don't play White. Sit him out this year at all costs. I don't care if Casey Dobyns has to go in and play QB.
